Shooting advice

Words Of Wisdom

Clint Smith, Director of Thunder Ranch, is
part drill instructor, and part standup comic (Thunder
Ranch is a firearms training facility in Arizona ).

Here are a few of his observation on tactics,
firearms, self defense and life as we know it in the
civilized world.

"The most important rule in a gunfight is:
Always win -- and cheat if necessary."

"Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of
way.."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of
bullets. You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll
have to beat you to death with it, cause it's going to be
empty."

"If you're not shootin', you should be
loadin'. If you're not loadin', you should be movin', if
you're not movin', someone's gonna cut your head off and put
it on a stick."

"When you reload in low light encounters,
don't put your flashlight in your back pocket.. If you
light yourself up, you'll look like an angel or the tooth
fairy... and you're gonna be one of 'em pretty soon."

"Do something. It may be wrong, but do
something."

"Shoot what's available, as long as it's
available, until something else becomes available."

"If you carry a gun, people will call you
paranoid. That's ridiculous. If you have a gun, what in the
hell do you have to be paranoid for."

"Don't shoot fast, unless you also shoot
good.."

"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other
word you think will work, but I've found that a large bore
muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the
universal language."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your
problems.. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"You cannot save the planet but you may be
able to save yourself and your family."

"Thunder Ranch will be here as long as you'll
have us or until someone makes us go away, and either way,
it will be exciting."

More Excellent Gun Wisdom.......

Take what he say's to heart I have since I was a 17 year old kid. I am 63 now and with any luck I will make it another 20 year's.

Man, I have to remind myself of this from time to time!
It's kind of like playing a guitar - you have to play it well slow before you can play it well fast. When I find myself getting out of hand with these big box mags, that's when I go back to my old single shot rifle!

Major John Geddes said it well, sustained ACCURATE fire is what gets it done...

You did indeed sir and I am most appreciative...I just hope I never find myself in a situation where it becomes useful. But if I am, I got it....and I will use it.

While it is preferable to have "one shot one kill" just remember that "He who laughs last usually has the most ammunition."

I have to say it doesn't take "heart" to kill someone. It actually takes, the ability to act/react without heart, or any other human emotion. It takes the ability to shut off the heart or as is commonly used in the Bible 'harden your heart'. Is it sometimes necessary? of course it is. There are many 'bad units' running around who need to be dealt with by someone with this ability, who is well trained, equipped with the proper apparatus to dispatch the said "bad unit" back to the drawing board.......but heart? not so much...

This is not the proper statement for most of the people on this board. People that are carrying for their or their family's protection will use the weapon most likely when forced to or when put into the position of no other choice. This is not heart this is fight or flight.

What I meant about heart would only encompass a few of the people on this board. It take's heart to look through a scope at another human being for several Min's several Hour's or several day's even and then squeeze the trigger on them and live with it. I have had many conversations with combat Marine's includeing my son and the majority of them will tell you they are not sure they hit and or killed anyone while in a fire fight. I have never had to ask any questions of another Sniper we know for sure and still live with it.

I know what you were saying sarge, and I can speak for myself, I knew when and where I hit my targets. I stand by my observation. I understand yours as well. I know.
