I am trying to get the wife interested in possible CC. She goes shooting with me on a routine basis so she is comfortable around firearms. While she has taken some training in the past its been awhile so we are going to sign her up for some handgun classes in Feb at SEG.

But I have a question on how to "test" firearms so that she is comfortable. Her biggest complaint about most firearms is that they are too heavy for her to realistically carry. When we were in the gun store the other day I had her hold the Ruger LCR. She liked it enough to consider but wants to shoot one before plunking down the $500+. I've asked at a few local ranges and no one rents the Ruger LCR (rentals are predominately autos). I don't know anyone that currently owns the Ruger LCR so any other creative suggestions on how to get the wife to shoot this particular pistol?

I can't imagine anyone not being happy with the LCR. It's the best .38 snub I've ever fired, and it's lightweight means you can carry it anywhere. The grip is what makes it so easy to handle, even for someone with large hands. Also, Crimson Trace makes a laser grip for it.

The going price around here is $425 with the factory grips.

Sharpshooters (formerly Gilberts) rents a decent selection of pistols and revolvers. Look them up since you're in Leesburg. Relatively decent range and you can bring your own ammo or buy theirs.

I just bought a new Ruger LCR with a Crimson Trace sight on it. I got the whole package for $590, sound like a good deal, or what?! I haven't had the opportunity to fire it yet, but plan on doing so this week-end. I thought the LCR would make a good companion for my new LCP , I had bought one for my wife for her birthday awhile back, and like it so much I bought another one for myself. She has a CCP and I have a feeling she will want to give my new LCR a try.....

Like any very light weight gun it can be a little "snappy". Trying it out is a good idea. If you do not find a rental, those of us who own them love to share them. Some one up your way would probably meet you for a shooting session. If not, come down to Richmond.
