TC Firehawk 54 Cal. Muzzle Loader

Post by emmitt »

I am the proud owner of TC Firehawk 54 Cal. Muzzle Loader that does group well even at 50 yards. The ignition system has been up- graded to utilize a 209 primer and I have been using TC 250 Gr. XTP Mag Sabots. I have also been using 100 Gr. pre-formed Pyrodex Pellets. Does anyone shoot this firearm and can anyone sugest a specific load / projectile that has grouped well. A rock solid Bushnell Elite riflescope is also mounted on my TC.

Please Advise

I enjoy shooting bullets from Precision Rifle Custom Muzzleloader Bullets. I shoot a 1 in 28" twist barrel, and I don't know your twist, but some Firehawks are reported as having a 1 in 38" twist. If this is the case for your gun, try the table that this link leads to. I shoot the QT polymer tip bullets with incredible accuracy, and also enjoy the Keith nose HP (hollow point semi-wadcutter) and Extreme Elite bullets. Choose a bullet with three stars in your rifling column and you should fare well. Buy them before Jan 10 and get a great deal on price and shipping. I have a link for that, too.

I owned a FireHawk in .54 and sold it to fund my now sold Encore. I fell for the QLA hype and had the regular barrel sent off to put the QLA in. The rifle was a conical shooter before the QLA, but would only shoot Knight 260 grain/red sabot bullets with any accuracy after that. Another bullet you might want to try is the Hornady XTP 300 gr. in .452 a crushrib sabot.

The FireHawks were 1:38 twist in .50 and .54 caliber.

I have the TC 54 FireHawk. It is a great gun.The best hunting load I have found is PowerBelt 348 Gn. with 85 grain of 777. This load has taken several deer with pass through shots with no lost deer.
Also try the barnes in 275 grain.
