Duty to inform?

Post by luisyamaha »

In Virginia, Is there a duty to inform a police officer that you have a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) during a traffic stop? Or any other official intervention by a police officer? Even if I'm not carrying at the time?

I got stopped for speeding recently and the officer did not ask. I was not carrying at the time. Did he know about my CHP when he ran the plates? Why didn't he ask?

I got away with a warning, BTW.

There is no duty to inform in VA and it's not required to inform unless asked. And if they run your plates I'm pretty sure they will know you have a CHP.
Why wouldn't you hold up the targets for me? It's a 9mm.

No duty to inform, but if you are asked, it's best to give an honest, straightforward answer.
