Hard to believe it has been 31 years since Tiananmen Square, today.
And my memory had totally forgot that it was the same year as the Berlin Wall coming down. Time seems to have separated them mentally.

I was scheduled to travel to China to do a startup on a tire test machine on the island of Hainan, in the city of Haikou June of 1989.
The state department suggested that Americans not travel to China for a while.
I ended up flying into Hong Kong in September and from there on to Haikou.
All communication was being monitored if I sent a telex to the states it went through a government check before being sent on.
I was told by my company to not talk about Tiananmen Square while I was in country.
I was there about two weeks.
I found that the people I was working with, including management of the tire factory were all totally unaware that anything happened in Beijing that summer.
Hainan is the large island south of mainland China and east of Vietnam.
