Thinking of moving to Virginia

After I retire this year because my wife has family there. Currently in Georgia, a gun friendly state. I have had a carry permit for 40 years and want to continue that practice. I also don’t think I have any long guns, pistols, or magazines that are legal in the People’s Republic of Kalifornia.
What surprises await me in Virginia?

We left San Fernando Valley, CA in 1977. We have returned several times to visit family. It never looked or felt the same -- mostly going down hill. Places we could afford were very trashy.
The home we bought in 1972 was for $24,500.00. About 3 years ago it sold for $504,000.00. It is in Simi Valley out near the old K-Mart (then at the far end of Simi Valley).
Most of the family has now left SFV and only couple still there. I hope they can get out soon too.
Don't think getting out of CA would be bad for anyone. There are many very beautiful states that we still want to visit and we have lived in 5 so far -- CA, AZ, IL, TX, VA.

If guns is a big part of the reason for the move to VA you should likely stay to the Western part of VA. It is much more red than the Central/Eastern portion. Property & real estate lower too.

Yorktown is not too far from me. It's pretty close to Williamsburg and Jamestown too. Richmond isn't too far away. Virginia Beach is fairly reasonable too. You could be in the Outer Banks, NC in 3 hours from there.
