Re: Virginia Beach shooting and a question
That's a good question and one that the news media should question and report on...but they don't. They are remiss in their self proclaimed duty to inform.

Re: Virginia Beach shooting and a question
Stuff like this is why I hate the media.
They reported: the suspect "just recently legally purchased hand gun, with high a capacity magazine and a silencer."
The police said he had the guns for several years, going back to 2016. Anyone buy a suppressor in the last 5 years? How long did that process take? 9 months? A year? So much for recent.
1911 extended mags only hold 8, 10, or 15 rounds. All much less than any other full-size pistol's standard capacity magazine. So much for "high capacity."
The police also implied that there was no silencer (suppressor) or at least not one being used, because they said they found the gunman after breaching the building by following the sounds of gunfire to the THIRD FLOOR!. I own suppressors. I know they aren't like in the movies... but you are not going to hear suppressed 45 ACP in a concrete, brick and steel building from 3 floors away.

Actually ProMag makes and sells a 40 round drum magazine for the 1911.
Also, there is this 30 round stick magazine:

You should buy lottery tickets if you are lucky enough to buy a promag that works.

Once again I would point out the immorality of denying the opportunity for self defense in any less than sterile setting.
As well, the calls for universal background checks would not have prevented this episode but that is the lie that Pelosi and Shumer are putting forth.

VCDL sent this link showing anti-2A intent from Virginia politicians:
https://www.nbc12.com/2019/06/04/gov-no ... -gun-laws/
Correct me if I am wrong, but would none of their proposals have avoided this event?

Re: Virginia Beach shooting and a question
My experience has been that even after the incident and all or many facts are known, no one can come up with any "meaningful gun control measures" that would do any good to prevent a re-occurrence. No matter whom you ask -- they don't have an answer because there isn't one.

The news is reporting that northam is calling all the state legislators together to work on gun control efforts.
He/the dims/libs/progs/socialists want to ban assault weapons (not used in the VB shootings). And bumpstocks (not used in the VB shootings and already federally banned). Have universal background checks (not a factor in the VB shootings). Ban suppressors (still waiting to see if the guy even had a real suppressor, or a legal suppressor). Ban high capacity magazines (still not sure of what the guy had - think about it, with a 1911, if he used one, a 10 round magazine is high capacity vs. design or what they're sold with).
Etc., etc., etc. Another attempt by the dims/libs/progs/socialists to enact laws to take rights away from law abiding citizens even though none of the proposed laws had a bearing on the incident they use to justify their continued attempts to destroy the US Constitution and the America we grew up in.

At the end of this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/vi ... 90c97c34ff
It is reported that the police chief did not see any gun control as able to stop this event. I haven't seen that widely reported.

Re: Virginia Beach shooting and a question
Every time something like this happens, the aftermath is the same. The left immediately politicises the incident, and we get upset about it.
At this point, we need to fight on that level, ourselves. These things are due, in no small part, to failed leftwing policy. We must go on the offensive, and to hell with decorum. Conservative "decorum" has served us poorly.
The left is a nasty bunch, as they continually demonstrate. We're playing by the polite rules of boxing, while they're playing cage-match-to-the-death. It's absurd.

Public areas only? Or the whole building?domin8ss wrote:To answer the original question: No.AlanM wrote:https://www.cbsnews.com/live-news/virgi ... e-updates/

Laws tell you what you can't do, not what you can. I cannot find a law that says you can't carry in the building.

^^^ That's exactly right! Every law is a take away of a right we had but just lost.domin8ss wrote:Laws tell you what you can't do, not what you can. I cannot find a law that says you can't carry in the building.

https://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/c ... pportunity...He also knew that the building was a gun-free zone thanks to Virginia’s state preemption law prohibiting Virginia Beach for enacting gun laws more favorable than those mandated by the state.

Re: Virginia Beach shooting and a question
Right, and my question was probably poorly worded. The portion of the building where this event took place was accessed by keycard. Even the police had to call for a cardholder. If city employees are not allowed to carry firearms, then the area is, effectively, a gun free zone.
