Gov. Northam announces gun control package to be introduced in next session.
He said the package includes measures to require universal background checks; establish an Extreme Risk Protective Order; reinstate Virginia’s One Handgun a Month law; prohibit individuals subject to final protective orders from possessing firearms; ban assault firearms; prevent children from accessing firearms; and require individuals to report lost or stolen firearms to law enforcement.

They are using the term "assault firearms" to include ALL firearms with over 10 round magazine capacity? That's a new one. Now we have assault pistols. Now I have assault pistols and I did nothing to get them.
On the Extreme Risk Protective Order, I wonder if the State would be willing to assume responsibility for protection of those disarmed by said order...as well as hold responsible the person or persons responsible for initiating the order...to the tune of legally complicit in misfortune of the disarmed?
Same for children left with no access to firearms in a time of dire need?
Etc., etc., etc.,...

The whole thing is a hot mess. We no longer have Scott Lingamfelter acting as Chairman of the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee, as he lost to a Left-winger.
The new Chair is Thomas C. Wright, who is a Republican and got a pro-gun scored of 76 with VCDL, but I don't know what his history is. Hopefully it will never make it out of committee.

Great... looks like firearms related Bills are arbitrarily being split between the Committee for Courts of Justice and the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee. Who know who will end up with any of these Bills.
I was able to find all of them but the assault weapon ban, prepped and ready to go, in the Virginia Legislative System's Bill Tracker.

Just a couple more days and the letters are going to start going out. We all need to be very vocal about this stuff.

I'll tell you this right now... if the assault weapons ban gets passed in Virginia, I'm moving. I've just about had it with this state and all the BS the damn carpetbaggers are bringing here.

Told my wife that last year. She looked at me kind of funny and asked why in the world I'd want to move. I might be spending more time by myself one of these days.

No doubt. Lindsay doesn't want to sell this house or move. She said... just buy a cabin in WV and keep your stuff there. She doesn't understand how vulnerable unattended homes are, regardless of the area.
I guess I'll visit her on the weekends... maybe.

Agreed. The (expletives) moved here, and ruined what once was a fine state.
I truly hate them with every fiber of my being. The "Come'heres" from the north, and west who absorbed our culture, even hate carpetbaggers. Maybe more so.
Where is the best state to move? TN? KY? GA?

Yes! You can't imagine how much disdain I have for them!
I escaped from Rhode Island over 20 years ago because RI is a political and economic crap-hole. I came here specifically because I love the Southern culture and the freedoms that just don't exist in many other places.
The problem is, the same socialist/communist morons that messed their states up, are coming here because they wrecked their home state and can't stand living there anymore. Then, they demand that we "tolerate" their stupidity while they destroy the culture and elect their own to ruin this state too.
They need to go home and clean-up the mess they made. And Bloomberg and the Clinton crime family need to keep their damn money out of state-level elections.

I've seen a few say KY. Unless the next election cycle pulls us closer to Red (which I doubt), I am thinking that any of those 3 would be an improvement.

Lobby Day! January 21, 2019. I'll be there, will you? Letters are great, but faces are better!
My wife doesn't really get it either. She asks, "How many times will you move before you just give up?" My reply, "As many times as necessary."
I'm partial to TN, but KY is also on the list. GA is, well . . . Atlanta.

Kentucky and Missouri. Rural areas look and feel "Virginian". The people in both States remind me of actual Virginians. The gun owners that I've met are generally happy. And, cigarettes are cheap (relatively speaking) in both States. Oh, haven't noticed, one way or another, in KY, but the State doesn't own all the liquor stores in MO.
Not that I want to move. I don't know that moving will solve anything.

Hope you can make it Marc. If not, letters will do!
@SHMIV - the idiots seem to have a way of following. Listening to XM Patriot today (forget who it was - Wilkow maybe?) and heard it explained pretty well. The progressive states/cities tax the crap out of the upper class, so they leave. Then they work on the middle class until they leave. All the while they fill the empty spots with poor people who will vote themselves free stuff. The fools who leave take their stupid liberal ideas to wherever they go and turn that location into a poop-hole (sound familiar?). And so it goes.
I hear people talking about moving to Texas or Florida. Go for it. You'll be pissed off again in about 10 years. Trick is to move someplace where the stupidity takes longer to arrive than you have left above ground. I think we still have a pretty good selection . . . for now.

@Swampman: Wilkow has a pretty good way of explaining things.
The problem with moving away from problems, especially when they end up following, is that eventually you run out of places to go. Now, WE all may be dead, before that happens. However, our children (or, those under 25) likely won't be.
Not that I have another solution. Part of the Progressive Plan has been to take over the education system, celebrate mediocrity, and produce hordes of infantile young adults who are incapable of critical thought, are programmed to do nothing for themselves (thus, they are always dependant), and have them vote for anyone who offers free chit. Really, I don't know how to counteract that, at this point.

Education Is in the Crosshairs in Bolsonaro’s Brazil
The president-elect seeks to ban from the classroom political opinions, debates, and any issues that could be construed as leftist.

That would be a good start. I would vote for a Bolsonaro instead of Trump. Looks like besides big mouth, it also has the mojo to do things.

I agree that most likely we won't win another election. Slowly but surely, kiss your rights goodbye. In VA, TX, TN ow anywhere. Florida just restored voting rights to over 1 million felons.
There is a saying in my country: "real men have died in the war". What is left is incapable of real fight.

If there is a silver lining its gun grabbers can no longer claim nobody is coming for your guns and that they just want "common sense" gun laws. They showed their cards and tipped off their endgame.
Hopefully this will wake up the gun owners who didn't think they would go after their handguns, after all they didn't have an AR so they didn't vote to fight for their rights.
With the suburbs heavy democratic and anti gun strongholds, I'm not sure if we have enough districts to fight them off at the State House.
Really, what will probably end up saving us is when Ruth Bader Ginsburg has to retire soon, SCOTUS ruling against these infringements. Of course the cases need to get to them for this to happen.

If we need a license for guns, we should have a license for public speaking too. Words hurt. You call someone Nazi... permit revoked, ban from all social media. If we think you will say something that hurts someone or yourself, same thing.
And no words more than 10 letters. Those can make more victims.
