Second Savage Bolt Rifle !

Post by Snakester »

After I got The Creedmoor fine tuned and shooting the way I expected and since I have been hoarding 308 ammo for awhile , I picked up a Savage Axis II in 308 ! It came with a Bushnell 3x9x40 Scope and The Accu-Trigger . It also need some tuning and TLC . I'm going to adjust the trigger just a bit and do a little polishing to smooth out the bolt action . For the $$$$ these rifles seem to be a pretty good value . I'm really looking forward to getting my longer range built , to see how they can really shoot ! :tommygun:

That sounds awesome! I really like my Savage 22LR bolt gun. It is amazing what kind of quality you get for the money. Once you get them dialed-in, they will last forever. I dialed in the 22LR and haven't touched it (beyond a little oil) for damn near a decade.

Worked on the 308 a little today. Adjusted the Accu-Trigger and lightened the pull some. Lubed the bolt and the bullet ramp and I can notice how smooth everything seems to operate. I also checked all the bolts on the scope and rifle for proper tightness. I really felt a difference in the trigger at the range but , I might need to adjust the trigger just a little more.

Good too hear! One of the benefits of having an adjustable trigger is the ability to dial it in to your liking.

Well, that sounds fun and awesome.

TBH has indicated a desire for something chambered in .308. I imagine that I'll be looking for something along those lines, in the future, lol.

The trigger was definitely better after the adjustment Randy but I think you can go more.

It'll be nice to compare them Sunday...

The 308 is shooting really good after adjusting the trigger. I am having an issue with the bolt not picking up the cartridge and ejecting the spent shell. Everything looks good and with only about 150 rds. shot , I should not be having this problem. I'm going to take the bolt apart tomorrow and hope to be able to fix this issue !

I worked on the bolt and fixed the problem with the ejector. I have only shot Tula Steel Cased Ammo....Hope this isn't the cause of the problem . I have been thinking of another "Bolt Rifle" .....Maybe .223 , Carol says the 30.06 and .308 is a little much . I think I will go with The Ruger American , Predator or All Weather.
