Hi all,
Concealed Carry licensed in Florida, own a few guns, enjoy target shooting and plinking with my sons, concerned about local laws in the state. I will be in an over 55 community and its in the county of Spotsylvania. I am sure you get this from new members but can you point me to a previous topic request that would answer all the questions about ... when where cans can'ts and how in regards to the use of a gun.
Better to apply for concealed license there before I turn my FL CCL in down here. Best place to review laws.
Thank you in advance for any guidance thats offered.
Paul

Hey Paul. Welcome to the forum. While I'm sure all of this has been discussed in the past... I don't know if we have a consolidated thread.
Let me see what I can do for you with regard to links and resources.
For what it's worth... I have no idea how to handle the validity of your Florida permit once you move to Virginia. I'm no lawyer... but I would be willing to guess that your Florida resident permit is no longer valid once you are a Virginia resident, unless you are keeping part-time residency in Florida. I would strongly recommend discussing that with an attorney.
Or... Va is an open carry state. You can just open carry until you get your Va CHP, then it's a non-issue.
Anyway... I'll follow-up around 12 or 1 if someone doesn't beat me to it by then.

So, looks like firing a weapon on private property is not legal in subdivisions in Spotsylvania County.
https://library.municode.com/va/spotsyl ... 14-8DIFISU
Sec. 14-8. - Discharging firearm in subdivision.
It shall be unlawful and a Class 1 misdemeanor for any person to discharge or shoot any firearm in any subdivision of the county. This section shall not apply to law enforcement officers, animal wardens or to any person acting in defense of his or another's person or property.
Some other resources are listed below.
https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title18.2/chapter7/
From Chapter 7, Article 4 (§ 18.2-279) to the end of Chapter 7, Article 7 (§ 18.2-311.2) covers state level firearms related laws.
