So, we had an amazing time! We had so much fun that we almost completely forgot to shoot any video or take pictures. But I did get a little to share. We are going to go back next month and I am bringing a regular video camera. I'm just going to let it record the whole time we are there.
I did remember to start my own dope chart. I am going to keep on top of it from now on.
We were at the "guest" range, available to non-members. It has everything from pistol to 300 yard ranged targets. Everything at the 200 and 300 yard distances are steel only. We went straight to the 300 yard since we have a ton of 100 yard experience.
First we started shooting the Ruger Precision Rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. The rifle is 100% factory stock. I have a Burris XTRii 3-15x50 scope on it.
That rifle makes shooting at 300 yards just a dream. We had steady 5-7 mph wind cross wind coming from our Northwest, but the projectile flies so fast, I didn't even have to adjust the windage or hold over from when I set the zero at a 100 yard indoor range. Once it was dialed in, we hit the 6" target shot after shot. After I hit 20 in a row, I just stopped counting. LOL its a kick but rifle for sure.
From there, we switched to my M4 clone... SIG 516 Patrol It has very few modifications. I installed a Geissele Automatics Super Dynamic Enhanced Trigger tuned down to 2.5 lbs and Bravo Company A2 sights. Everything else is factory.
The A2 sights on that, I have to say... that made the job a bit more difficult. LOL I was able to hit the 18" targets with about a 83% hit rate and Nick was around 70% hit rate. Considering this is the first time Nick or I shot at this distance, I think we did pretty well.
After that, we switched to the 300 Blackout. I was blown away at how accurate the 300 Blackout is at 300 yards with no magnification. Again, today is our first time shooting anything past 100 yards. I had a 93% hit rate and Nick was at a 87%.
The Blackout build is as follows:
SIG Arms 516 Lower
SIG Arms Mil-Spec LPK
Geissele Automatics Super Dynamic Enhanced Trigger tuned down to 2.5 lbs
Geissele Automatics Nitride Low Profile Gas Block
Magpul MOE SL stock
Magpul MOE-K2 Grip
Troy Charging Handle
Vortex Venom 3 MOA red dot
Troy flip-up HK sights
Advanced Armament Co upper receiver
Advanced Armament Co 9 inch barrel
Advanced Armament Co Nickle Boron BCG
Advanced Armament Co BLACKOUT 51T Flash Hider
Advanced Armament Co 762-SDN-6 Suppressor
Knightâs Armament free-floating guard
The crazy part is, a 3 MOA dot almost completely covers the 18" target. There was not a lot of room for nudging the hold-over. I had to turn the dot brightness down to its second lowest setting so we didn't washout the target.
Here is a quick video of Nick shooting the 300 Blackout.
