Shot the New Gen5 Glock

Post by Reverenddel »

I like some things, other things?

I like the LACK of finger bumps, the under cut on the trigger guard, the flared mag well, the bevelled front, the new finish is tight, the match barrel is a bit more accurate, and the trigger is GREATLY improved over the last one. (I have never liked the old trigger.)

The M'eh of it!

Dunno why for 2 seconds, and 4 lines of code in their CNC machine, they couldn't have added front serrations to the damned thing. Also, "Ambi-slide release"?! Yeah, for the 15% of the left handed in the gun world. Also, "Plastic sights"? Yeah, I know people change them out, but really? You can't spring $10-12 for metal ones?

Yet, they sit on a "modular military prototype" w/ all the improvements above, PLUS a AMBI-SAFETY, and a THREADED BARREL!

It was good, but not good enough for me to spend money.

I felt like gen 4 was a fail compared to gen 3. I guess they are keeping the tradition alive.

I love all my gen 3s. The only gen 4 I have is the 43 and it runs like a sewing machine.

I am curious to fondle a gen 5, but not worth me selling my current collection and starting over for.

Best part of the whole thing though? I asked the dude from Glock "People fuss about your grip angle, yet ya'll stay steadfast... Any reason?"

Exact words, "Are you not happy with the fact a Gen1 mag will fit the Gen 5? You can adjust to an angle, paying for new accessories isn't fun. "

Point taken!

I'll throw in my 2 cents, how about shaving the girth down a little, like the Rev said, just a few lines of code change, and done. Why is there a decent size aftermarket for reshaping the hand grip, and trigger guard if no one wanted those to be improved. The other plastic fantastic guns figure most if not all of this out, and yeah, some of us do like the external safety.

I almost kept the 20 I picked up, but it just didn't fit like the 1911 so it had to go. I can't really complain other than those little things it seems everyone else complains about, but the feel just wasn't for me.
