As A Parent...

As a parent, myself, I don't quite know what to think of this:

http://nypost.com/2017/06/01/dad-overdo ... -a-lesson/

This guy's kid is a heroine addict, and after finding the young mans stash (again), the guy shoots himself up with a fatal dose of the sons dope, in an act of desperation. Fortunately, the son found his father, and brought him back.

That's hardcore; I'll give him that. Also, it strikes me as insane, and stupid. But, on the other hand, it may have worked. The son seems inclined to go back to rehab, now. If he's still clean in 5 years, maybe that was a successful act of desperation.

I have known a bunch of junkies, though. Those are some selfish people. Nothing means more to them than their next fix.

Either way, obviously I wish both the father and the son well, and hope that the son truly got the message, this time.

They certainly act selfish, and they subordinate everything to getting more dope. But I've had family members who became addicted to Oxycodone after having it prescribed for back pain/surgery. I wound up burying both of them. I spent a lot of time and money trying to help them. I am convinced that unless you are an exceptionally strong and tough-minded individual, after you are addicted to oxy, you just can't help yourself.

I think Big Pharma and the medical community (and our government for the way they have manipulated health care) have a hell of a lot to answer for.

All the focus by Bloomberg on the gun lobby when Big Pharm and Big Med kill more people every year.
