Im trying to obtain information in reference to acquiring a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) for Virginia; and my circumstances of residency. I am recently retired from the army, and I am a resident of Texas; however, my wife is still active duty on orders here in Virginia. What exactly are my avenues of approach to getting a CHP in Virginia without having to utilize the nonresidency form route? My DD-214 reflects above than average qualifications with weapons. Would this suffice for the state recognition of a firearms safety course. I also have a valid Virginia state hunting and fishing license. I appreciate any and all help

Your wife's status doesn't have any impact on your options.

Beceome a VA resident, or use the non-resident form. Now that your back to being a civilian, you can only have one state of residence. If you're still claiming Texas, then you ARE a non-resident of VA.

Any 214 works. Even for a non-firearms MOS...

Well you will either have to claim your residency here, or do you already have the Texas concealed permit? If you do you should be all set because of the reciprocity but you will just look up some of the different rules here. Welcome to Virginia.
