Looks like some military may be going back to the 7.62 NATO rounds.

1000 years ago when I was in the army, our officers always teach us to shoot twice, no more. If you hit relatively well at least once with the old AK47, there is no need to fire again.

The enemy doesn't wear armor over their face... just sayin'. T Zone FTW.

This seems to be an army issue,marines dont have this problem.

in the CCW/personal defense world where you might be dealing with a prepared shooter who is wearing armor, the new catch phrase is COF.

Center of Face. Think of a 4x10" target as your new practice size.

I'm glad they are teaching that. Even if a bad guy isn't wearing armor, its most likely instant off. In life or death, you want to stop the threat as fast as possible.

These days, yes. As I said, 1000 years ago, in the communist army, that was the standard. Body hit, twice. I don't think I have ever heard of head shots (except for the PSL guy).

Seriously though, I think the 5.56 has proven itself in MOST situations for the military for quite a while now. I agree that certain SO units could very well be benefited by a heavier hitting round.

As a CC'er I will still practice COM as that's the most practical aim point for any of us in the unlikely event we have to use our sidearm. Extremely unlikely that the average SD shooting is going to involve body armor.


Now if you're talking Red Dawn then I'm going to wherever Mark is to back him up...

They sure about that? I've seen SS109's do some nasty shiznit to ceramic plates... Hell, up close? It'll make a plate steel dent... and I think you'd feel that.

193's are the real interesting ones on steel plates. Speed is one of the things that helps defeat steel. A 193, 20" bbl and short range make for a bad day for most things steel

How about Barrett M82 with AP rounds. I'm sure a random steel plate can't stop .50 BMG.
