A young man hears strange noises, sees evidence of strangers lurking about his house, so he shoots. Turns out, it was a couple of officers, "checking things out". Oops:

That’s when Plummer fired a single-shot through the front window in hopes to scare away who he assumed were burglars.

The four rules folks.

If this kid truly wasn't some punk then a lack of how to handle a firearm is to blame. However that doesn't admonish him from responsibility. You own every bullet that leaves the muzzle, period.

Not surprising at all coming from Detroit though....

If Detroit wasn't such a crap-hole, maybe the kid wouldn't have felt the need to shoot first and ask questions later. I'm not a fan of warning shots though.

Which reminded me of this:
I enjoy being in America: it's fun, you know, because you have, you have so many things we never had in Russia — like warning shots.
Yakov Smirnoff
The first time I saw him use that joke he was in the hot seat being interviewed by Johnny Carson and Carson asked, "What do we have here in America that you didn't have in Russia?"
Smirnoff paused for several seconds like he was mulling over the question and then said, "Warning Shots."
Carson fell out of his chair laughing.
