I setup a small workshop for my gun smithing hobby and one item I always think about every time I pull a firearm out to work
on it is accidental discharges. it's happened to me ONCE in my life and I can tell you that it sticks with you. so on that note
I work on C&R firearms WWII mostly and they can be temperamental at times and down right stubborn most of the time.

I picked up some scrap schedule 40 steel pipe and steel plates and put my trusty Arc welder to work and came up with this.

Just so no one gets the wrong idea here, this is not for test firing its a clearing chamber just in case...

The 8 inch steel pipe is filled with sand and has over 3 inches of steel at the bottom.
I figure better safe than sorry.


So what cool safety ideas do you have?

That is cool and think you should be safe with that. Only time I worry about this is when I'm chambering a round in my home protection firearm, though I do know that a rou,d could go off with a light primer strike.

Question though, do you have the ability to take it out and test it somewhere, I would rather have it fail in the field testing then in my home when I needed it most?

I would test at the range, if I had some land I could use this tube to test fire but I live in a neighborhood and that would not go over very well with the home owners association ...

and yes I use this when I am chambering or unloading my home protection firearm.
most of the firearms I work on are older between 50 - 100 years old
and yes slam fire is an issue with older guns

for a commercial version $350 bucks. I'd think for a business operation, its a no brainier to get the commercial one, hell I can't get an hour of my lawyers time for $350.
