Gotta vent...

Decided to include family on Facebook about 9 months ago.

Mistake 1.

Now both sides of my family have disappointed me in their behavior.

Mistake 2.

is it normal to have such a disdain for people's actions that you're willing to write off your history?

Since Trump became President, I've no issues cutting these people out of my lives, once more? I find their absence rather peaceful.

Opinions? Thoughts? Same situations?

I can relate, I won't relate how.

I too can relate, and as said above won't go into it, but yes things can be much more peaceful. At first it seems difficult to let your history go, but then once you realize you are your own history, and can spread it from there, it gets much easier.

I have had occasion to contact certain of my progeny and castigate them for lack of discretion on Facebook. Just part of bein' their pappy. Job's not done until they throw dirt in your face, I reckon. At least on Facebook they tell on themselves and cut the town busybodies out of the loop.

I know how you feel. I have a sister-in-law that calls the house sometimes as many as 4 times a day asking the same thing over and over again. She calls my step-son on his job so often he has thought about getting a court order barring her from calling him while at work. My step-son is an electrician's helper and has received her calls while on ladders handling electric wires. There have been times I wish I had a time machine so I could prevent the telephone from being invented. Yesterday was my day off so I unplugged our phone so we could get some peace and quiet.

Fortunately, my snivelings and I get along pretty well. We do things that annoy each other, from time to time, but that's pretty normal. My mother's snivelings all lean to the left, and their children are even further to the left.

At this point, the only relative, on my mothers side, that I care to see is my mothers cousin. He also leans left, but at least he is civil about it, and he doesn't mind that we have differing opinions on politics.

I don't do Facebook anymore, anyway. I see no benefit to posting my business for the world to see. My closest friends have my number, I have theirs, and we talk regularly. Same goes for the family that I am close to. So, there really is no need for Facebook. I reconnected with all my old friends, a while back, and found that I have nothing in common with them. Many of them haven't progressed past the high school days. Living arrangements are still squalid, still making minimum wage, still involved in the party scene. No interest in improving. That's fine for them; if that's their pursuit of happiness, I wish them well. But, I want better.

Go on and cut those ties, Rev. And don't look back. Just don't tell them that you are doing it. Just fade away. That's what I did. On the rare occasions that I bump into a cut tie, they are glad to see me; there is no anger, no hurt feelings. Plus, I have found that (since people don't want to admit to not knowing something ) folks have made up some interesting stories about me.

This Forum is the only social media in which I participate. Facebook, Twitter, and whatever other things that the cool kids are using to gossip and share, have nothing on this place.

Facebook is fun, and the root of all evil.

Keep in mind, it's a toy that was invented by college kids who had too much time on their hands and thought the entire world revolved around them. The entire purpose of the app is to share you're every waking moment, as if somebody actually cares..

I have a FB account because my wife created it to give herself stuff in a Facebook game. Now I use it to torture libs online. It's all its worth to me. Family or not, I don't give a damn. LOL

I had a former co-worker (and boss, who I replaced) post the nastiest progressive hate speech on my wall when I made a post about being respectful. THEN he posted on my family's walls calling them ignorant redneck (they're hillbillies so that was offensive) inbred (I thought liberals were tolerant and PC?) Trump idiots (never mind one of my cousins is a Bernie supporter with TWO doctorates....). THEN he got on another person's wall who thanked God for getting thru surgery and mocked their faith - but heaven forbid you mock his atheism or muslim radicals.

I have just started blocking people. Even better than unfriending. Shadow ban and my wall is just now family photos and fun poop.

Oh I block, unfriend, and delete things.

My problem is that I thought my FATHER'S side was a bit better, but greed made them go after mom for a paltry sum, considering they have more money than Midas.

Mother's side is always putting me down. To the point of "Really!?!?"

FB friends? Not real friends. People on FB that ARE in my world are in my shooting circle/camping circle, and I like them enough to keep FB.

topsy turvy worlds.

Made a similar mistake a couple years ago.

My solution was just to stop logging into facebook. Got tired of the constant liberal/progressive/socialist BS from relatives who should be smarter than they are.

I pretty much just follow my kids and particularly my grandchildren on Facebook. I see a lot more pictures and accounts of what they are up to and how the grandbrats are growing up than I would if I were waiting for them to get around to coming home a few times a year.

I keep my personal business personal, with very few exceptions. And on several occasions, I have, when in the company of one of these people who put it on Facebook everywhere they go and every time they stop to pee (a couple of my kids have such acquaintances), told them, "I consider what I do and where I go is nobody's damned business but mine. I don't want to see myself or a reference to me on your Facebook timeline."

So far, I have enjoyed compliance with those requests. Maybe it's because I didn't exactly couch them as requests. They may have been perceived as more in the nature of threats. On the other hand, I guess maybe they just humor the grouchy old fart (me) for the sake of my kids and just in case I'm as mean as I act (I ain't - hardly). I don't care and it doesn't matter as long as I'm left out of the Facebook scene.

Other than this and a Jeep forum my social media existence is nun. I have never had any accounts on any social sites and do not care to. Same as most of you I suppose. My business is mine and I do not care to know yours.....

We need to hi-jack this thread and turn it into a Jeep thread. And yes, Randy... I finally got a permit for that big red machine gun on the hood! LOL

I actually just traded in the Jeep on a truck. Needed towing capacity and more room and the wife did not want another car payment.

That's the one. Decent fuel economy and plenty of power. I ended up with a '14 that only had 14k on the clock.

I stopped following the family on FB and exclude them from my posts. I got tired of the sellout and derogatory comments because how dare I be a black man AND conservative. Facebook is now only used for guns, cars, and astronomy. It is not worth most of the BS going on, especially since the cesspool is about to be drained. I used cesspool as swamps are good things. Caught my largest bass in a swamp. :)
