Exxon CEO as Secretary of State?

It is rumored, though not confirmed, that Exxon Mobile CEO, Rex Tillerson has been picked for Secretary of State, as he is set to retire, due to the mandatory retirement age set by his company:

http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-el ... ry-n694371

From the article:

"Tillerson's role and financial stake in ExxonMobil — the fifth-largest publicly traded company in the world with a $369 billion market cap — could open up cases of conflict of interest."

This is getting obnoxious. Trump, because he owns successful businesses, has been accused of "conflict of interest". Tillerson, not a career politician and presumably not a lawyer (although, maybe he is; I don't know much about him. But, that's not where his primary success has been, it appears), is accused of "conflict of interest". And, it seems that anyone else that Trump has chosen or spoken to, for cabinet roles and such, that has experienced great success in any field outside of law or politics, has potential for "conflict of interest".

This is Horse $#!+. What has been implied, of course, is that politics should be left to career politicians, who start their political careers with a law degree and bar membership.

We've been letting lawyers run this country for far, far too long. We've gone from from the Law of the Land being a document, only a few pages long, and written in plain English, to being smothered under more laws than one could ever READ in a lifetime, much less memorize, written in some indecipherable bastardization of the English language. That's what comes from packing lawyers in every branch of the government. So, yeah, I call "Horse $#!+" on this "Conflict of Interest" nonsense.

Good God... I hope this is not true.

Unfortunately DJT will be challenged and tested on every action he makes. The libs still want him to fail so the "I told you so" phrase can be applied.

Compare this to what Hillary did with her personal program "Hillary Foundation" << this is what you get if Trump's actions are reversed.

Yeah, and “No political experience” and “no diplomatic experience” cited as flaws besides alleged potential conflict of interest.

I wonder if it has occurred to any of these naysayers that if you have been able to go nose-to-nose with Vladimir Putin (and his counterparts in places like Saudi Arabia, Yemen and other tough venues) and negotiate a deal that not only serves your own interests but results in a medal of friendship that you might just be a better negotiator than the State Department boobs who have consistently given away the taxpayers’ farm since at least the end of World War II. I see no reason why if you can negotiate successfully to achieve financial goals you cannot also do so for politicaL/diplomatic ones. Indeed, it may even be easier in one sense because in the case of the diplomat his goals may not be as obvious as in a financial transaction.

Further, I’d say there are few people who are or have been in government that do not have a portfolio, and ALL of them surely include some Exxon-Mobile (or something else sensitive to the same issues) even if they don’t even know it. Certainly, none from the left was heard to be offended by any of Bill and Hillary’s investments and “charities” over the years.

What all this prattle from the left means, translated from progressivespeak to plain damned English is:

“This guy is not one of the anointed ruling class and we are scared to death of him because he may do something other than what our agenda dictates.”

To which I say, "THAT IS A GOOD THING FOE EVERYBODY BUT OUR SELF-ANOINTED RULING CLASS."

Tillerson would be an excellent choice for State.

The real conflicts of interest are from those who can only gather their personal wealth through corrupting their offices of public trust - as in the perfect examples of the Clintons, Dingy Harry Read, and Nazi Pelosi. It's time we had high government officials who have their own, honestly earned money, and who want to serve.

I'm not worried about conflict of interest because I believe in judging people by past deeds, not future paranoia. I just cant help but think there could be a better Statesman available. That all. Maybe a decorated combat Vet with a history of diplomacy in private life.

Perhaps there are better choices but I like this choice as he has had to negotiate contracts and deals across the globe. Being retired Army, I am all in for ex-military folks but glad Romney appears to be out of the running.

Maybe, just maybe, with all these financial/business people involved in the government the country will start making money, or at least stop wasting money.

Imagine what it would do for the citizens, who pay taxes, if much less money was wasted by the government on projects/policies that were worthless and actually was able to make more money due to increased production, increased sales and increased numbers of jobs providing citizens with more opportunity to earn AND spend that money.

I'm quite pleased with PE Trump's picks thus far. Time for real people to run things for awhile.

Clinton Foundation. There's your conflict of interest.
OFA. There's your conflict of interest.

The hypocrisy runs deep.

One would be hard pressed to find a conflict of interest greater than that of the Clinton Foundation.

The way the Left seems to describe the phrase, you'd have to spend your life in a cave, removed from society, to have no conflict of interest. Of course, then you'd end up with no discernable interest at all. And, no practical life experience.

I'm comfortable with Tillerson, for the moment. I doubt he'll be as bad as Hillary was, and he doesn't seem inclined to drag James Taylor out with him to hug the world, or some such nonsense.

One nice thing about Trump; judging from his campaign, he's clearly not opposed to firing people that are not producing desirable results. Another thing I note; fired Trump people still seem to like Trump. That, to me, speaks to a skill in tact and diplomacy.
