Utah Constitutional Carry article at odds with its own poll

Post by AlanM »

Here's an article that claims that people in Utah don't want Constitutional Carry.
What's amusing is that the paper is running a poll on the subject at the end of the article that in EVERY state where people have responded the response has been overwhelmingly FOR Constitutional Carry.

Poll: Utahns oppose carrying concealed gun without permit
SALT LAKE CITY — Utahns overwhelmingly oppose being allowed to carry a concealed weapon in public without a permit, a new poll shows.

UtahPolicy.com conducted the poll as Rep. Lee Perry, R-Perry, intends to introduce a so-called "constitutional carry" bill in the 2017 Legislature, a controversial proposal that has failed to become law the past few years.

The Dan Jones & Associates survey found 75 percent of Utahns definitely or probably believe adults in the state should not be allowed to carry a concealed weapon unless they have a state-issued permit. The poll found 24 percent say a concealed weapons permit should not be required.

Just for reference, here's UtahPolicy.Com's article: Utahns Overwhelmingly Oppose 'Constitutional Carry'

Personal Note: 818 people polled. As one commenter points out, that's a pretty small sample size. I had been under the impression that a poll had to have a MINIMUM of 2000 responses to be statistically valid.

The poll on KLS.Com has 2122 votes from people in Utah (based on IP) and 67% are in favor of Constitutional Carry.

But... its not a scientific poll. Neither of them are. It reminds me of the polls that the media did about support for Clinton and Trump... if your poll targets registered Democrats, of course its going to show 90% support for Clinton. Same thing here. If a Lib rag polls its customer base, they vote no. Right leaning rag... the customer base votes yes.

Some of these types of laws (gun controls etc.) do absolutely no more than to make the activists, sponsors, drafters, and voters feel good about having "done something about the problem". The rest exacerbate the problem.
