At a conference, guy goes on, and on about "waiting periods".

So I said, "What about someone who gets a restraining order? Would you advocate them waiting, or being able to protect themselves considering wait times for police?"

"OH! She (why he assumed a SHE) should be able to get one instantly!"

Then I countered, "What about a Vet who lost their legs, wouldn't they need one? And they're vetted by guv'mint service."

"Sure! That makes sense"

Thinking quickly, "Ok, old people should be able to get one?"

"Yeah, they're pretty safe".

Countered "Then who should wait?"

He said "SOMEONE LIKE YOU! You got to have a few firearms (He has no idea) YOU should wait."

"Well, why would I need to wait, if I ALREADY OWNED THEM? If it's a 'Cooling down' period, wouldn't that be silly?"

"True, you might have a point there. But no one needs an Assault weapon! NO ONE!"

"What about farmers?"

"Farmers?"

"Yeah, you live in the city, your response times are AMAZING! In the FAR rural areas, you might not get police for almost 30 minutes. Wouldn't they need something more than a shotgun, or a handgun, if they came up against someone who got an assault rifle illegally?"

"Yeah, that makes sense."

"So what you're saying is if you're a perfectly healthy city dwelling citizen without a criminal record, you shouldn't own an assault rifle, and should have a background check for your first gun, right?"

"EXACTLY!"

"You're a perfectly healthy city dwelling citizen without a criminal record, and you catch bad guys, and you don't own a weapon. Someone you just sent to prison calls and threatens you over the phone, police cannot do ANYTHING about it, and you need more evidence for a restraining order... You feel safe?"

(grumbles) "Well, I SHOULD be an exception."

"Everyone feels they should be an exception....so just let everyone be accepted."

"yeeeahhh, I might need to rethink this">
