Scorpion Evo Ambi Safety Delete - Eh...

So, I got a CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 for my son. This pistol is really very well built but is serious pain to shoot. Literally. If you look at the picture below, if you palm the pistol grip correctly, the selector switch sticks in your trigger finger and every time the gun fired, it felt like someone was breaking my finger. After only 5 rounds, my finger was bruised and swollen.

I bought a replacement cap from CZ-USA... you know, the company that made the pistol, and of course, it doesn't fit because the damn think was machined wrong. FML

I used a few screen grabs from this video so you can see what the problem was.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXIlpK9KVTc

The shaft for the selector system has a hole drilled all the way through it. The delete button has a hole on each side, and the key screw is supposed to go through all 4 holes. Problem, the holes on the new button, didn't line up correctly. I couldn't tighten the screw all the way down because the screw didn't push into the 4th hole in the line.

I had to use a drill to ream the last hole out. It took about 30 minutes to size it right without making the last hole too large. If I made it too big, then there would be play on the button.

Kinda of disappointing since this pistol and the button are all made by CZ-USA and after S&H, the button cost $20. I shouldn't have to machine anything. I should not have had to pay to fix their poor selector design either. But, hey... maybe the unit will work well from here.

I wanted to give you all a heads-up if anyone has one or plans on buying one. I'll let you know how it goes.

I probably would have just cut the finger off the original knob, lol. But, I'm cheap and not patient enough to wait for a part to come in the mail.

That, and I'll modify something as basic as a dinner plate to suit my purposes. Drives the woman nuts.

That's a fun looking gun, incidentally. I'll have to be careful about showing TBH these pics; she's likely to want one of her own. She just said, the other day, "You know, we should buy another gun. It's time."

It's funny you say that! Lindsay was just saying "Is there anything you don't modify?". LOL

Ha. TBH has made similar comments. Half the time I pick up something to buy at the store, we have a conversation that goes something like this:

Her- Why are you getting that?

Me- Well, I need a device that does thus and so, and if I take this thingamajig and mount a doozywhatzit there, and cut a hole here, and attach it to the snippledygidget that I have at home, it will do what I need it to do.

Her- You can't do that.

Me- Why not? Of course I can.

Her- That's not what it's for.

Me- It will be if I buy it.

Her-IT WASN'T MADE FOR THAT!

Me-So?

Her- Why can't you leave $#!t alone?

Then she huffs and puffs and stomps off. I really don't know why she gets so frustrated about it. And after half a decade, one would think that she'd just accept that I will modify everything; I want things to fit me better, or I want things that don't exist. So, I modify and fabricate. It's good to see that I'm not the only one, lol.

how nice for timing, I got my approved form 1 yesterday. I don't know if the safety is more, or less of a pain in a rifle config, but I'll soon discover that.

I really like the idea of ambi controls, as I'm an equal opportunity rifle shooter, and the ability to run it from either shoulder is one of the attractive options on this firearm.

I went with the delete because it was cheap... But other companies offer a replacement that widens the switches and has the toggle bar higher up and out of the way. You're looking around $80 for the ones I've seen.

We're men. We have tools. It's what the hell we do.

Why ask why?

Good deal! My son keeps asking me to SBR ours. I'm kinda torn. As a pistol I can take it damn near anywhere in the country with no issues. If I SBR it, then I need ATF approval to move it to another state.

Might just get a brace instead of a stock.

so now that its engraved... I can say for sure, the f'n safety is still in the way for a RH shooter. New safety has been ordered.

got the ak-style from HB, looks like it can be manipulated with the side folder, in the folded position, so that is a plus vs the smaller replacements/delete options that are in the market.

Will you let me know how that safety works out? The lack of ambi function isn't bad, but there is a noticeable difference in comfort/ease of use. Of it is out of the way,and functions well, I'd like to try one out.

I like it... Nick likes it too, but I shouldn't have shown him the pictures, because now he wants that trigger. LOL

I put HB's trigger and spring kit in, and what a huge difference in trigger pull. Also put on a US made compliance part on the muzzle that has a 3-lug mount for a suppressor.

Might even get some time to try it out this weekend.

That good info. I noticed the 3 lug. If I SBR ours for Nick, I'm going to get a can for it too. I didn't realize how much the adapter added to the overall length.

Your Evo looks great.

the other upside of the 3-lug, is if you let your thumb go forward, its not resting on a muzzle break.

Handled an Eco pistol today for the first time. Can see why people complain about the stock safety! Solid feeling firearm though.
