Well, I got to Elite Shooting Sports today to find a few fire trucks here. No real details other than there was a minor fire on the hundred yard range. I've been here for about an hour and the swear they are going to open the range again, soon.

Was anyone here when it started or knows what happened?

Looks like they are trying to dry the floor and get the AC and air pump running again.

Fire at an indoor range?

Ten to one that is was some doorknob with incendiary or tracer rounds.

I didn't see any damage once I was able to get on the range. One of the employees and the owner told me that they would open the range "if they got the sprinkler system fixed". I also overheard some employees talking who said they could see "this guy putting round into the ceiling and beams". Those things lead me to believe some dumb schmuck with no business with a firearm shot the damn ceiling and hit the fire suppression system.

But that's just a guess based one what I saw and what little info I got.

That makes sense. Last time I was at the 100, I saw someone pull the target holder into about 5 yards, with his target high, and cut loose; apparently completely unaware that he was shooting up the ceiling about 2/3 of the way downrange. All that, in spite of the fact that the required safety video explicitly

the only way I'd build an indoor range after seeing some of the bad handling would be with tubes like they use on military full-auto ranges.

basically a funnel starting at the shooting position, to a 36" tube down to the impact area. Total projectile containment.
