The Greatest Generation Lost Another

My Grandmother left us, this morning; presumably picked up by my Grandfather, who left us a year ago.

Mentally, she's been gone a while; she had dementia. But, now it's official, I suppose.

My Grandmother's biggest pet peeve was the feminist movement, which is interesting, considering her personal sense of independence. She was quick to join the work force, at the conclusion of the 2nd World War, though she did put her career on hold to raise her children. She placed a high value on education, giving cash rewards to grandchildren and great grandchildren, for good grades. Herself, she continued her own education with courses at the community college, including online classes. She did this long after she retired, and well into her 80's. Many times, she told me, "You are never too old to stop learning."

She was greatly convinced that the Feminist Movement was created by lazy men.

I will miss her, but I am thrilled that the cutest little old couple that you ever did see have been reunited. They were married for 75 years.

So sorry to hear of your loss H. My grandmother passed about 6 months after my grandfather did. We thought he came for her too. They were married 51 years.

"She was greatly convinced that the Feminist Movement was created by lazy men."

This is a great line. Made me chuckle.

I'm so sorry to hear it. My grandma passed shortly after thanksgiving last year, I'm glad I got to spend it with her. Truly my generation can't hold a candle to that one.

We shall all meet again one day up yonder, till then we should strive to live by their example.

Thank you, Gentlemen.

Most of the family is offering up prayers of thanks. We are thankful that she is no longer suffering, and no longer confused. We are thankful that she has rejoined her husband. And we are thankful that we had so many years of her company.

Myself, especially, on that last point; all of my grandparents stuck around about two decades longer than I expected, and I still have some left, so I have been very blessed in the grandparent department.

sorry to hear that she is gone. Amazing that they were married longer than the average american lives. wow.

Your story brought back memories of my own grandparents. Seems they don't make'em like they used to.

I've been doing funeral stuff today. My Grandparents Church is undergoing renovations; right after the service, they started to rip out the interior of the sanctuary.

At the conclusion of the internment, a few minutes ago, I was offered the pew that my Grandparents always sat in. I figured that was an unusual heirloom, so I could not pass on it.

Guess I will have to build a Chapel in my backyard, now.

Well... That's the first I've ever heard of something like that.

I don't know about building a church, but that pew could be a foundation for a pretty cool memorial in the backyard.
