No more mr nice guy

Post by thekinetic »

Well apparently my brother's ex wife was assaulted and stabbed by two black women after she confronted them when they nearly hit her mother and daughter with their car. Thankfully she is going to be alright and the police are going to arrest the two in the car on attempted homicide, but her daughter (my niece) had to witness it.

I can say this, I'm done playing nice. My dad and I agreed we're going to start carrying our gun everywhere. While I used to feel that I will shoot to stop, I will now shoot to kill. These @#%ing thugs just got on my bad side, no more will they get the benefit of the doubt but now only will be met with suspicion.

I hope you have good counsel for any future self defense case you may be involved in. Your internet rants may be used against you. Cathartic to type things out, but don't hit "submit".

One shouldn't shoot, unless they are mentally prepared to kill, anyway. Shooting to maim makes for compelling scenes in TV shows and movies, but it isn't good practice, in the real world.

Having spent a couple of years cruising around inside a mobile weapons system that if ever used would undoubted guarantee that we would not have a home to go back to, a system that would kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions with each of 16 shots I'm pretty sure that I'm mentally prepared to do what is necessary to stop a goblin that has convinced me that he means to harm my loved ones, my friends, or me (in that order).

guessing from his age apparent in the photo, which might or might not be him... I had him pegged for a Lafayette class man.

TK I disagree slightly in that I do not shoot to kill. I shoot to stop them from continuing the action that prompted me to shoot in the first place. If they die as a result that is an act of God that I have no control over. More than 80% of people shot survive according to various statistics. Also it is more defensible in court. The only places I know of where good people can get away with shooting to kill is on TV and in the movies. Hell, soldiers in a war zone are nearly forbidden to kill the enemy now a days.

Well after cooling off a couple of days I've come to the decision I'm going to be getting my CHL so I can carry my .357 j frame. It's small, light, accurate, and powerful. All I need to know is can I use my hunting license as proof of competence?

You know the thing that really POd me is the fact that no one did anything, a parking lot full of people standing with their cell phones taking pictures. You mean to tell me that not one of those idiots had a gun? In a walmart parking lot in woodbridge?! Oh and it gets better when the police went to arrest the two pieces of human garbage they had fled! So due to the failure in our oh so great justice system they have essentially got away with it. Oh and just so I don't sound like the media now a days they were black!

Speaking of, did the media mention it NO. Heaven forbid they actually mention black on white crime because it might put them in a bad light or expose the truth. I think I understand my dad a little better, when you have enough stuff happen to you you stop giving a damn and turn into an ornery cuss that doesn't take any BS.

You can use Hunter Safety Course as proof of competency, or a DD 214. Without either, a class is required I believe....

No offense but.... glad I don't live there anymore..!!!

Exactly. You're not trying to kill them, you're trying to stop them from continuing the deadly threat to you or someone else.

A J frame .357? These days you're seldom facing one or two bad people.

Not sure where anyone on this forum lives. In Chesterfield County the county is now doing concealed carry permit training. It's free. I don't have details on it but my oldest son (who works for the county) told me that he's signed up for a class in September. Why wait that long? Because evidently it's popular enough that the classes between now and then are already full.

Chesterfield County is also offering an "active shooter" presentation the middle of August. Open to the public. I saw a note about it on the VCDL post/note. I plan to attend. Maybe some public officials are beginning to "wake up".

The .357 is for concealment and is what I bought it for, my other pistols are too big to do so comfortably. My M&P 9mm is my open carry piece, and I don't have a holster for my 1911.

Chesterfield is bit far for me to travel seeing as how I live in Springfield. If I have to take a class I could probably find one near me or just do it online but I emailed the fairfax county asking if my hunting license would be adequate and I am waiting for their reply. I know in some counties like Portsmouth it is fine. So who knows what they will say.

In the last 2-3 months I have felt the need for the first time to get a CHP. And I feel the things will get a lot worse.
But first I need some practice, so I'll use part of the mid year bonus to get a 22 training pistol for me and family.
What do you recommend as 22 to learn and then to make transition to a subcompact 9 mil? A ruger maybe?

Something that's as ergonomically close as possible to the 9mm you want to eventually buy.

The M&P .22 is almost identical to the S&W M&P 9mm. Great training gun.

Should I get a 22 kit for it or something else?
