RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -
Police are reopening lanes on I-95S near Belvidere after Black Lives Matter protesters blocked off traffic.

At least a dozen protesters blocked off all southbound lanes around 5:45 p.m. Monday and draped a sign on the overpass.

Several State Police cruisers, as well as Richmond Police and a helicopter, arrived on scene. Lanes were reopening around 6:20 p.m.

Police arrested 13 of the protesters at the scene. State Police say they charged the protesters that refused to get off the Interstate with being pedestrians on a highway and for impeding the flow of traffic.

Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones also arrived at the scene. He was concerned about public safety being jeopardized if any emergency vehicles were trying to pass through stopped traffic.

Traffic was backed up several miles throughout the city of Richmond.

We have several reporters at the scene speaking to police and protesters and will have more information for you on 12News at 11.

I would just drove up to them and slowly crept forward, trust me they'll move. Or the second they take any action against my vehicle I would exercise my right to defend myself and run them down. Either way somebody needs to just run them the @#$% over without any hesitation and this would show them that people aren't going to put up with their childish crap!

What the hell is wrong with white people protesting on behalf of BLM? Its like a black guy going to a KKK rally in a show of support! These idiots are actually supporting people who want to enslave and/or kill them! What morons!

In the event that protesters try to block the road in front of me, I have no intention of slowing down. I'll just keep on moving, while I lay down on my horn.

If I run them over, that's their fault, not mine.

I'm too scared for my safety to stop for them. The way that things have been going, I have no reason to believe that I'll live very long if I do stop.

Given the current climate, and remembering the treatment of Reginald Denny in similar circumstances? I can't speak for anyone else, but, if called to jury duty for a trucker not stopping I could not vote to convict.

The entire movement is about Black Lives Mattering. Then they pull these kinds of acts. Doesn't make any sense. Do they matter or not?

What I find funny is, all of this is spinning up because some folks from the Black community are complaining that they are getting killed by the police too often.

Well, we all know that most Blacks are killed by other Blacks somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% of the time (like most races). However, I don't think many people know that about 12.5% of all white and Hispanic homicides are committed by police, while only 4% of all homicides of Blacks are committed by police. How the he'll are they being singled out and excessively killed by police?

Here's another good question... out of everyone who has ever been killed by the police, how many of them were not career criminals, were fully cooperating with the police and following all verbal directions from the LEO's? I'm gonna take a WAG and say not too darn many. Heck, pick any 2 out of those 3 criteria and I would put money on the likelihood of the number changing more than 0.5%.

They blocked the road for over 20 minutes before the police showed up. Then they were given TWO warnings before the cops got around to arresting them. Why does the RPD negotiate with terrorists?
