NOVA Classes, Ranges, etc...

Okay..... asking for assistance here.

Had an awesome family BBQ this weekend. As usual, at some point over the weekend, we made it to the home range on my property. Was a blast as always. Pistols, rifles, etc. A grandson fired his first weapon this go round, a Marlin .22 that his uncle (my 17yr old youngest) owns. Was a special moment. Well..... Aunt Bunny decides she want to learn how to shoot. Aunt Bunny is my 53 yr old sister. She had never fired a weapon in her life. Admittedly, she has asked before but, just didn't get to it. Well, this weekend was different. She fired multiple handguns, 9mm, .38, &.45  She also shot my Rem 700 in 30.06 Amazingly she put it right in the bullseye  She was SUPER fired up about it all, & REALLY excited about it.

Now... reality is.... I really was only able to touch on the most basic of basics in an afternoon. She really wants to purchase a handgun of her own. She actually asked me to take her to purchase one. I told her hell no, she wasn't ready to own one, & that she needed to take a safety class or two & get some real comprehensive hands on training. I instructed her that only THEN would I endorse her buying a handgun, even though my endorsement isn't needed...lol. She agreed, & acknowledged the need.

She's seriously a SUPER NOOB & very ignorant to firearms. I figured some of you NOVA fellers could direct me to the right class, & or range to help her. Again, she lives in Vienna. I told her I would ask around, & find the best range/classes in her area to help her become a responsible gun owner.

Thanks in advance for the help..! :coffee:

NRA range in Fairfax offers many classes including some just for women taught by women. They fill up quick though.

most of the shops up this way offer, or can point you to instructors that offer classes.

About 3 months ago the NRA basic pistol class got a makeover. Its now a split class. E-learning + live fire with instructor.

They sign up onlne at http://www.nrainstructors.org/, and take the online portion. When that is completed they go back and find a part 2 instructor that does the gun handling practicals and live-fire.

I'll put the plug in here for the shop I'm teaching with... triune shooting sports in warrenton, and we have a nice private range near by where we do the live-fire.

If she has a few friends that want to take the class we will happily do a private class.

I'll pass the info to her. Thanks

I shoot at Sharpshooters, which would be about 10 miles from Vienna. The range itself is OK. They have a good selection of guns. I've seen signs there for training, but have never taken a class there so I don't really know what they offer. I have seen some people providing personalized training there. Their website is:

http://sharpshootersva.com

There's also Elite Shooting, which is Manassas. That would be about 20 miles or so away from Vienna. I haven't been there yet, but I've consistently heard that it's a nice range. Their website is:

http://www.eliteshootingsports.com

As someone else pointed out, the NRA range is close to Vienna, and would be a great choice.

Awesome thanks. Im gonna send her to the NRA range. Like I said in the OP, she's a total noob. This past weekend was the first time she ever handled a handgun, let alone fired one. She did pretty good for a noob but, definitely needs more instruction than I could give her in one weekend, amongst other activities.
