<mic drop>

Post by Reverenddel »

Some chick I work with went off on a tangent about how "...the Second Amendment was written about muskets! Not Semi-auto death machines! They don't deserve the same protection, blah, blah, blah..."

I simply responded.

"..as you write this on the inturwebz, and not with parchment and quill. HAHAHA"

There were no responses, survivors, or commenters.

Nice!

Though it does say "arms" referring to weapons of any sort. Really doesn't anyone understand English anymore? There is nothing to interpret, it's there in black and white, clear as crystal. We are slowly turning into the land of the pudding brains!

She tried some diatribe a few hours later, but probably after she had chats with her anti-gun friends to use cliches, and "soundbites".

She's not my favorite anyway...

However, I know that drove her crazy that I called her out on it. Rights, are rights.... and just because you don't like one? Doesn't mean you have the ability to REMOVE it.

I started this little essay as a boilerplate response to post in article comment sections on news sites. It could use some editing/polishing. Feel free to put it to good use if you can.
*****************************

Disregarding the Puckle Gun which was "a primitive crew-served, manually-operated flintlock revolver patented in 1718 by James Puckle (1667–1724), a British inventor".

IF, as our current day gun banners like to say, the Second Amendment to the US Constitution ONLY guarantees the people the right to own and use single shot, muzzle loaded, flintlock rifles because that was all there was at that time then the following MUST also be true.

The freedom of speech mentioned in the First Amendment to the US Constitution ONLY guarantees:
1. All written communications be performed using ink and quill.
Why? Because it wasn't until the second quarter of the 19th century that metal nibbed pens were invented and eventually came into wide use. A metal pen point had been patented in 1803 but the patent was not commercially exploited. Steel nibs came into common use in the 1830s.

2. All printed communications have to printed on manually powered, flat bed, printing presses.
Why? Well because in the 1790's the powered printing press and the rotary press hadn't been invented yet. They were another pair of developments of the 19th century. The first by the German printer Friedrich Koenig in a series of press designs devised between 1802 and 1818. His first successful one was in 1812.

3. All vocal communication has to be done face to face using, at most, a speaking trumpet or megaphone.
The megaphone has been around since the 17th century but amplified sound is definitely a development of the 20th century, well over 100 years after the passage of the Bill of Rights.

That rules out speeches at venues with electronic amplifiers and tens of thousands of people or more in the audience.

This means by their logic that the freedom of speech isn't applicable to telegraph communication, telephone, radio, television, or anything on the internet.

In my humble opinion they can't have it both ways.

There were multiple barreled thus multiple shot flintlock rifles and pistols at the time. Then there was the Ferguson rifle, the first breach load musket which used cartridges and was used in the American revolution. So that said cartridge based multiple shot firearms are nothing new.

My friend, Dave.... His response is the UBER MIC DROP ON HER!

"The same people saying it simply isn't physically possible to apprehend that many illegals where they live and work, are the ones who think it's going to be a stroll in the park going door to door seizing guns from 190 million American citizens."

Rev, it's been the same for me. People spewing non-sense. If you call them out on it, they resort to ad hominem and character attacks.

The bad thing is I take that high road but the media doesn't.

The Girandoni rifle was in service in 1780, 11 years before the Bill of Rights was ratified. It had a high rate of fire, and was breech loaded with a magazine capacity of 20 shots. Knowledge.

YUP! Mindflayer, and Kelu were correct. We're playing by "rules". Maybe we should start playing dirty.

I could go back to the "Why do you hate farmers, and old people?" when they talk about AR-15's.

I teach pistol safety to women and LGBT; I used to volunteer at a rape crisis center (until my psyche could not take it any more).

I ask them them if they are misogynist or homophobic. Apoplectic is the best word for the reaction I get. As I said in my latest social media rant, I then ask what the hell have they done to help women or gays other than change their avatar to a rainbow or a something. Sputtering and they usually take their marbles and go home.

And WE are the irrational ones? Mmmkay.
