Cabelas is having a smokin sale on a safe for their grand opening in Short Pump VA. Only problem is how to get it home. Is it reasonable to think two guys can wrangle an 800 lb safe up and down a ramped utility trailer? I'd have to pick up a heavier duty hand truck but 1000 lb trucks are available for under $200.

I bought a 600 lb. safe at Tractor Supply a couple years back. They brought it out on a pallet with their fork truck. They sat it down behind the truck, we let the tail gate down (padded the bumper and took the cables loose that hold the tail gate level) and leaned the safe over (had the store guy's help for this part) and then they used their fork truck to raise it up and push it into the truck bed.
When we got it home we repeated the bumper/tailgate set up to make a sort of short ramp out of the bed. Then we pulled the safe out slowly, let the bottom (still on the pallet) down till it hit the ground and stood it up.
There was just the two of us, me and my youngest son. Both of us are pretty big guys (me old and overweight and him young and pretty stout). We used my engine hoist to move it around, still on the pallet. The engine hoist would not lift it off the floor but it took enough weight off the pallet that we could easily move it around.
Good luck with it, 800 lbs. is pretty heavy for just a couple of guys. Looks like you'll be laying it on it's back for the transport (ours was).

That seems like a lot of safe for just two. A couple of burly men could probably do it, but it is a lot safer to have more. They are bulky and clumsy to handle. Steps, stairs and corners make it a lot harder! Don't forget to check how wide the doors are!

First, I'd get a couple more strong guys to help.
You could probably rent an appliance moving dolly that would help a lot. The really good ones have straps to hold the load on and a set of smaller wheels that lock down when you tilt it back so you're travelling on 4 wheels; as well as some kind of stair-climbing capability. I think a ramped utility trailer is a good way to move the safe because you can avoid laying it down on its back. I move my 400-pound smoker this way by my lonesome; and I'm an old cripple by some people's standards. But if I was using a ramped utility trailer, I'd be sure to either have it hitched to the towing vehicle when you load it or chock the trailer wheels and block up under both ends so the weight of the load can't tilt the trailer when the load is on either end. I had so much trouble with my little trailer doing that I bought a set of jackstands and chained them to my chocks. Then I'd load the safe tight against the front bulkhead of the trailer and strap/tie/wedge it so it can't shift or tilt over either backwards or sideways. Nail something to the floor if you have to.
I was involved in moving several safes a while back, but we had the advantage of a pickup with a lift gate and the loan of a dolly that the local soft drink guys move their big coolers with (we also borrowed the guys that use the dolly). My guys still managed to drop one safe off the back of a pickup. So be vewwy careful......

That appliance mover is a GREAT help! 4 of us carried a 800lb model from GreenTop, and it was a BEAR! I wish I were kidding, but maneuvering around corners, and such with a big safe was difficult.

The door is half of the safe's weight. They come off!!!
Use a low height car jack and lift the door off. Do in reverse to put it back on. Use towels to slide it over carpet or floors. Or get a dolly from Home Depot. Did two that way!!! You still need two people to stabilize it when moving it and use ratchet straps to keep it on the dolly

Yes, that is the one. I looked at a similar model at Gander Mt last night. Bigger than I imagined. Would be very cool in my basement. Fellow would not match the price even though we found it on line. Said the Cabalas sticker on the front made it special / not a similar model.
That door was very heavy. So it comes off eh?
I like the idea of laying it in the bed.

On ramp/doors and trailers...
A few weeks ago, I did some moving around of things. I dropped my trailer off at my garage door, so I could unload it the next day.
A previous occupant had left an old tire machine in the garage. That thing weighed a ton. My best friend indicated that he would like to have a tire machine, and since he's been borrowing my trailer a lot, we put the thing in the trailer. By "we", of course, I mean my brother in law, who's a fairly big guy. He got the thing past the ramp door, so that it was at the very back, behind the axle. He did this by muscling it on to a pallet, and dragging it with a rope. Once it was on the trailer, he decided to step behind it for some reason. That transfer of weight caused the front of the trailer to come up, and the rear of the trailer dropped to the ground. So, if the trailer has stabilizing jacks, I recommend using them. Or loading/unloading while the trailer is still hitched up to the tow vehicle.

Cabelas said they'd honor the sale price and have it shipped to my door if bought in person. So for $250 delivery I no longer need to deal with the trailer or truck bed issues. The pvc pipe was also suggested by my brother in law and another person on the Cabelas site, so that's the plan.
Trigger drove down today to win a gift card, a firearm giveaway and place the order. 200 people already in line and the giveaways went to those standing in line before the store opened. She did place the order (at customer service) and spied Trader Joes on the way home so she was happy.
Now to made some space. I have 4 to 6 weeks.
