While I was shopping for a belt for when I carry by CCW I was able to visit a uniform shop at an Army base and I came across this belt and bought it for $19.00. It’s just what the doctor ordered, 1.75” width, very stiff to handle the weight of a 1911 but still flexible to not hinder your movement and it comes in various lengths.

Looks like they are out of stock. Wondering, can you cut the belt to adjust the overall length without it unraveling?

I've done that with some nylon belts in the past. I use a lighter of butane touch to melt the fabric at the ends so it doesn't come apart. Of it is all nylon, or more nylon than cotton, that should do the trick.

You can make or buy a tip for a Weller soldering gun or a soldering pencil that is thin and sort of knife blade shaped that will melt/cut polymer belts or rope quite neatly.

I bought one of these punches last year, it will go through a thick leather belt with minimal effort.

Okay, searched this thread out and the website listed above is not available.

I've looked around a bit and most of the newer belts have steel cores and range from $60 on up. If I was looking for a new belt to hold my pants up, what should I be looking for?

I've bought a couple of belts, belt straps and separate buckles. These are mine -- the middle is by far the best. I bought the strap and buckle in Ft. Worth Stockyards at a leather shop. Belt strap was about $35.00 and buckle about $30.00. This makes for much interchangeability with the other straps if needed. The black strap from a Harley Davidson shop in Ca on a family visit. The older brown was a Walmart special about $12.00 but it isn't bad. There are lots of buckle variations.

By the way...there are some Amish that make some attractive leather belts and are reasonably priced.

I've recently gotten into leather work, and will probably start making my own belts, soon. No one makes belts (or much of anything else, for that matter) for insanely skinny guys like me, which is a nuisance.

I bought a big old heavy leather belt at a gun show a couple years ago. Paid $50 for it and it was well worth it.
