OC in NoVA - share your experiences

Post by jpoolsmyd2 »

Just wanted to see if anyone has OCed anywhere in Northern VA. If so, what were the responses of the people who noticed? Where did you OC?

I am in NoVA and I would like to do this some day. My wife has actually been encouraging me to OC as well. She says people will just think I'm a cop or detective or something (which I am not and would never pretend to be).

I think it would be very liberating. I am a bit worried about being harassed and don't want to alarm anyone around me.

But I know it is my right. Just want to hear other people's experiences here in NoVA.

Thanks!

Well, I'm not quite in NoVa, but I have OCed a few times in the Fredericksburg area. Only a couple of comments so far, but nothing I couldn't handle. One lady had a couple of kids in Wal-mart and the kids wanted to know if I was a "Police Man". I told them no, I'm a law abiding citizen. I like to OC when I can. It gives me something to talk about. My wife is warming up to the idea. She wasn't too sure about it at first.

Once we get some more members here, I'm hoping to start putting together some OC events.

I have only OC'd once and it was after a class, in Fredricksburg, with aboout twenty other people OC'ing. We where at a resturant and nobody seemed to notice or pay attention, those that did probaly assumed we were cops. Even when I moved around the resturant on my own nobody seemed to notice.

Funny you say that as my girlfriend does the same thing. Espeically when I ask her about printing.

I've opened carried twice. In Woodbridge and of all places Alexandria.

Sunday afternoon at Daves barbeque on Prince William Parkway. Me and the girlfriend got out of my truck to walk in. I'm carrying my Kahr P45 at the 4 oclock rightside. Mitch Rosen OWB.
A Prince William County LEO was sitting in his car doing paperwork. We walk past him, he looks up. I look at him and nod. He nods back, continue's to look for about 3 seconds, goes back to his paperwork. We go in and enjoy a fine meal. One of the little girls who greet folks at the door blinked as we walked in but that was it. End of story.

Fuddruckers on Duke street in Alexandria. Yeah, I know, right in the middle of the liberal cesspool, but I was hungry. Midafternoon on a Saturday. Same gun. same gear. by myself this time. This time I got some stares from a couple of folks already eating. The manager stops by and asks how everything is. We chat for about 15 seconds and that 's it.

I personally don't like to OC. But to remain within the law when eating out you gotta do what you gotta do.....Within reason.

Cliff,

I'm not very familiar with Daves or Fuddruckers, do they serve alcohol? We don't have those fancy places in Madison.

Good to know in case I ever run into one of those places.

Fuddruckers in Annandale is very gun friendly. Just ask the VCDL members as they go there every 3rd Thursday night for fellowship after their monthly membership meetings. Open carry is the norm since this establishment serves alcohol. Do not OC in Mike's American Grill and Kilroy's in Springfield.

Thanks for the posts! Wow, OC in Alexandria. Now that is something!

I have been thinking about it since it is the only way to go when eating out almost anywhere that isn't fast food. Everywhere seems to serve beer/wine at least. Even Chipotle!! Not that I feel the need to carry absolutely everywhere I go (but if you do no offense at all!! :)) but I may try it next time my wife and I go out to eat. Like I said, she's all for it.

Good tip about Mike's in Springfield... we go there often, but may not since they don't seem to be so gun friendly. Haven't been to Kilroy's in a long time... good prime rib, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, where else have people OCed in NoVA?

Y'know, I had totally forgotten about the Annandale Fuddruckers. I've been to at least one of the after meeting VCDL fellowships there. The folks there are pretty cool considering they see a bunch of steely eyed, serious looking, polite gentlemen and ladies with guns on their hips come through the door on the third Thursday night.

Ok, maybe no so steely eyed as we could be, but you get the idea. :)

I've OC'd at Walmart, Michael's, Dick's, a couple of restaurants in the area... I've never had a problem. Even got a compliment on my revolver once. And no one is going to mistake *me* for a cop. Not many cops are short blonde women with a revolver tucked in the waistband.

I used to OC before I got my CHP, however I do OC around the house or when Im workin on my truck... BUT I did have one guy freak last year when i was at the halloween store in Manassas.. He started yelling and looking for his kids all the while giving me this wild-eyed crazy look, yelling to his wife and family that they "had to go NOW!!" Once his brood was gathered they made a bee line for the door... I left too for fear of a "man with a gun" call to the fuzz...

So far I have only opened carry while walking the dog, but I go on long walks and there are large groups of unemployed, or waiting to be employed folks [if you know what I mean] along my route. I do not know why ICE can't just drive by and pick up these folks and send them out of country.

I have a border patrol T Shirt that I'm thinking of wearing next time. Not official, but in support of.

HAHAHA, I might have to get one of those for the next time I go to Home Depot. Are the large groups of people you're speaking of the ones that congregate around the 7-11 near I-66?

OC'ed in a Shoppers Food Wharehouse in Manassas. No one made a fuss at all. Only a few did a double take when looking my way. I do not look too dangerous. Had a 1911 in a shoulder rig. More comfortable on a hot day.

Hmm..been awhile since I posted in this thread...

OC'd all over Fredericksburg this week - Lowe's, Wal-mart (Ferry Farm and Central Park), several other shops in Central Park, WaWa, etc. No one has really said a word. It's been pretty uneventful as of late.

OC'g experiences...

a. do so on nightly basis while walking dog.

b. did so all weekend (4th of July weekend); in Reston, Fairfax, Herdon and Manassas (did a quick run at Lowe's in Gainesville) - no "looks" that I could tell.

c. OC'd today after-work, to the range, Chipotle, gas station, and back - uneventful.

... so far..

I think things are going to "change" drastically after this new judge soto-whatever gets confirmed, I have heard through the grapevine that there are several 'small' 2nd ammendment suits working their way through the lower courts that will most likely end up in front of "The Supremes". If obama wins a re-election there will be an all out assault on the 2nd. I really think we are in deep doo-doo...
