Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office Offering CC Classes
With only a food donation to the Chesterfield Food Bank, Chesterfield County residents can take their new handgun safety class. Apparently passing this class will generate a certificate that you can use to help get your CHP.
I wonder how much in taxpayer money this costs.

The Culpeper County Sheriff's Department has "Civilian Deputy School" (or something along those lines) that they use as a community outreach sort of thing. The program includes class time, ride alongs, and live fire shooting. The idea is that county residents get an idea of what the Sheriff's Department actually does. While it's not the intended purpose of the course, it DOES satisfy the training requirements to get your CHP.
On second thought, considering that the current Sheriff of Culpeper is very Pro2A, that may very well be the secret purpose of the class.
I don't know if they charge for the class, but considering that both my parents have taken it, I can't fathom that it would cost very much.
I doubt that the Chesterfield program is going to cost much in the way of taxpayer dollars. They will likely use a volunteer instructer.
I think that it's a great community outreach program. I suppose that one could view it as a welfare program, but even then, it's a program that actually IS beneficial to the whole community.

I don't think it's a welfare program, but it does raise some eyebrows on what the government should be doing vs a private entity like ProShooter.
People like to believe in limited government EXCEPT for pet projects that they like. I would just like to remove the EXCEPT and anything that comes after that.
In the end, if they do indeed use a volunteer instructor and there is minimal to no taxpayer dollars involved, I could refrain from grumbling. Past experience leads me to believe though that the guy will be on the clock and this class will contribute towards his overtime for the week.
