AR shopping

Looking for opinions. Found a brand new ATI AR-15, 556/223 for just a little more than $600 at a local FFL. Nitride barrel, 10" free-floating key-mod bbl shroud, aluminum lower and upper. Talked to him about the barrel, and he suggested I probably wouldn't wear it out. Thoughts?

If it is the polymer version, run! If it's all aluminum, I would get it. The polys crack where the buffer tube screws in. I think they are a waste of money.

I'll double check. Thanks for that.

For $600, you're better off going to Palmetto State's website and getting the upper and lower there. Better parts, and most are FN Barrels.

Thought about that. My only problem is getting with someone with the knowledge and tools to put it all together.

If you get a complete lower and a complete upper, all you have to do is open the pins, drop in the upper, and close the pins. I'm sure you could handle it.
When you can get a Ruger AR-556 for $699, I don't see the point of risking an off-brand like ATI. (Palmetto is not an off-brand. Their stuff is good.)

Where are you located? I would be happy to help. I've built plenty of ARs and have all the tools.

Buy a complete upper and complete lower, no tools required.

If you go with PSA, make sure you get an upper that comes with the Bolt Carriers group and charging handle or you will have to purchas them separately.

Both good points, and I've always hear good stuff about PSA. Still looking and thinking about it. Funds for guns are limited, so I have to think through this carefully. I also really want a lever action 30-30. But, not being able to trust the morons who run this asylum, might be better off getting the AR now because the 30-30 will likely not be on the list of "bad" guns.
@RO73 - I'm in Warren County, about an hour from Leesburg. I'll give you a shout if I decide to go with parts, but I'm more likely to get the snap together Lego version. May even just go for the Ruger.
@Lester - good thought. Will keep that in mind when I'm shopping.
Thanks guys.
