Lee - Jackson Day

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stonewall Brigade Camp #1296 is putting on the annual Lee-Jackson Day events in Lexington this weekend.

Friday: Lee-Jackson Symposium at the Holiday Inn Express, in Lexington. 1-5pm. Multiple speakers/authors. Drinks & snacks

Saturday starts with a memorial service at the grave of Stonewall Jackson in Lexington 10:30 am. Parade through downtown Lexington begins at 11:15am, & ends with a memorial service for General Lee at Lauderdale ARP Church.

Parade & services will be followed by a Luncheon/Dance at the Holiday Inn Express in Lexington. Luncheon begins at 1:30 pm with dance/ball starting approximately 2:45pm. Cost for the Luncheon/Dance is $25/person. All other activities/events are no charge.

That was the plan. A memorial service for General Lee, at Lee chapel, where he is interred, was deemed inappropriate by the university.

In my opinion, it's a special kind of stupid to declare a memorial service at his grave site, under the chapel bearing his name, on the grounds of the university bearing his name is deemed inappropriate. It's strictly a mud in your eye gesture from a university that is ashamed of it's own history/heritage.
