This has been in effect since early 2013.IN LIGHT OF THE TREND REGARDING RESPECTING CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITS ON UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES, LIBERTY UNIVERSITY’S BOARD OF TRUSTEES HAS AMENDED THE CAMPUS WEAPONS POLICY TO REMOVE THE TOTAL BAN ON FIREARMS. THE NEW POLICY CREATES EXCEPTIONS FOR UNIVERSITY VISITORS WITH VALID CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITS TO COME ON CAMPUS WITH THEIR WEAPONS. THE POLICY IS DESIGNED SO PERSONS WITH CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITS CAN CARRY THEM CONCEALED ON CAMPUS AS THEY WOULD OFF CAMPUS AND KEEP THEIR WEAPONS IN THEIR LOCKED CARS WHILE VISITING CAMPUS WITHOUT VIOLATING UNIVERSITY POLICY. SIMILARLY, MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY THAT ARE OVER 21 WITH CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITS CAN SEEK PERMISSION FROM LUPD TO CARRY CONCEALED WEAPONS ON CAMPUS AND STORE THEM IN THEIR LOCKED VEHICLES. LUPD CAN ALSO PERMIT CERTAIN FACULTY AND STAFF TO HAVE CONCEALED WEAPONS STORED IN SECURED CONTAINERS IN THEIR OFFICES. HOWEVER, STUDENTS MAY NOT CARRY OR STORE WEAPONS IN RESIDENCE HALLS. THE WEAPONS POLICY ALSO OUTLINES A NEW PROCEDURE FOR MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY OF ANY AGE TO STORE THEIR WEAPONS WITH LUPD.

This is being reported on a LOT of news sources. In his remarks, President Jerry Falwell Jr., son of the late religious right leader Jerry Falwell Sr., pressed students at the Christian school in Lynchburg, Va., to carry weapons on campus following Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif.
“It just blows my mind that the president of the United States [says] that the answer to circumstances like that is more gun control,” he said to applause.
“If some of those people in that community center had what I have in my back pocket right now …,” he said while being interrupted by louder cheers and clapping. “Is it illegal to pull it out? I don’t know,” he said, chuckling.
