SIG 716 Pics / Auto Qualifying at the Range

Post by MarcSpaz »

Got bored and went to the range twice this week. Tried to qualify for auto-fire at the 25 yard with my 300 Blackout. EPIC fail. Got to the 15 yard and that was my limit. The guy working with me was very generous at that. I really need to work on my stance. Shooting up Randy's dirt mount was much easier. LOL But the guys at Elite said they will keep working with me whenever I want to practice, which is very cool.

Anyway. Got some good ol' gun pics after I got back today. This is my SIG 716 which is an AR10 clone. Shoots great.

aimed full auto is a bit tougher than you thought.

Even tougher when you can't hold the firearm tightly like is needed with a slide fire.

Yep. I thought I would go get qualified so once I get a legit weapon, I'd be good to go, but I think I just need to wait. :-(

Marc,

Your SIG 716 is a beauty.

Pardon my ignorance: What is the qualification for full auto?

Thanks for the kudos! I appreciate it.

As far as the qualification, they start you at 3 yards, and you have to put a few bursts on paper. Then you move to the 5 yard and fire a few burst... etc. They move you back 5 yards at a time until you reach the desired distance. If the shot group is too spread out or if you start missing, they cap you at that limit.

So, I made it to the 15 yard line. I was all over the target while using a fore grip, but everything was on paper. I tried without the fore grip and I was getting walked up too much. So we called it quits. I am over weight and have some significant disabilities. The RSO said it takes a lot of effort to control auto fire and he said he could see me getting fatigued.

I need to exercise a little and get some practice in... but eventually I'll get to the 25 yard line, which is all I am interested in. In the mean time, the folks at the range will keep working with me, which is cool. It is just a novelty for me, so I don't mind progressing slowly.

Isn't that the same rifle you had at Randy's? I really enjoyed firing that one! I might have to sell three of my AK's to buy one for myself.

Let me see if I understand this correctly, you are attempting to be allowed to shoot on "automatic" with a slidefire stock. In order to do so, you fire bursts at targets and must maintain all rounds in the target before moving further back?
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

Correct. But not just on paper. There needs to be clear grouping. Not just all over the paper.

Got it.

Reminds me of the time I was at CSA and some guy three stall down was firing a Slidefire AR at 25 meters.

From a full magazine, 4 hits.

OMG! That is terrible. I can't believe the RSO let him keep shooting. I think Slide Fire bump fire stocks are an awesome and inexpensive alternative to a true full automatic weapon, but damn dude... you need to control your fire.

Agreed. The RSO pretty much put the brakes on his antics after that.

Nice looking! Do you remove the Slidefire when you leave the range? It does not look like a slidefire in the pics.
