Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

Several months ago I manned the VCDL booth at a gun show in Roanoke with others. I mentioned having a video running possibly hanging from the sign/bar over the display table. Lets face it -- people love videos.

Looking for help, guidance or suggestions:

- Does anyone have special presentation skills that would be interested in doing a video?

- Does anyone have knowledge of how best to display something like this either on a "Surface" PC, Laptop or otherwise?

- Battery life might be an issue if not plugged in.

I'd like to see something like this run all day but segments of 10-15 minutes max. I think if much longer the attendees will get bored and wander off to the show.

There could be several topics or themes that I think would be good for the gun enthusiasts and the VCDL. Any or all the things we discuss over and over could be considerations.

Assuming a theme might run 10-15 min we could have a session on the following:

- Mission of VCDL why you should join

- Gun safety

- Obtaining your CCP/CWP

- Proper etiquette if stopped by law enforcement while carrying - I'd solicit input from our local New Castle Sheriff's office

- other ideas.

Is this worth consideration or a waste of time?

When I did trade shows, we used a LED television that has USB input and looped supported video files from a flash drive. Both less expensive than a Surface and less prone to damage/theft. Really flexible because it can either stand on a table or by mounted to a fixture.

Whatever your videos are, I would make them 5min max. People in general, but especially at shows, have short attention spans.

It's a great idea, most the men at gun shows are pro gun. I would have video geared towards the ladies and stress gun safety and gun education for the kids. Just my 2 cents worth.

I think there could be many topics and the process loop through many subjects.

One son has a GoPro Hero camera and the other has a under-water camera from his diving days. I could have access to either, I'm sure. They will produce a format that will play on most devices.

Even if we obtain some videos from the internet (legally, of course) they could run. Anything to get people to stop at our booth. With nothing more than paper to draw interest, I think we need something more.

I would also suggest you reach out to the Virginia 4-H youth Shooting Sports. They are based out of Virginia Tech, and would be happy to provide some materials. We teach kids from 9-19, stress safety, and cover a wide rage of shooting sports. This would provide you with materials for both parents and kids that may well peak the interest of the kids to get involved with their local club. Doesn't hurt that in the entire existence of 4-H shooting sports we have only three documented accidents, all minor. If I remember correctly that time frame is somewhere between 50-80 years, and hundreds of thousands of kids participating.
