I am going to be on a live panel discussion today (Wednesday, October 21) at 7:30 PM on Channel 12 (NBC affiliate) in Richmond. If you live in the Richmond area, tune in!

Channel 12 did an online survey of people in the viewing area. Central Virginia is pretty much split on the need for more gun control, but we have some serious work to do educating people about Universal Background Checks, handgun registration(!), and waiting periods(!), though. I have no idea where those last two items are coming from. Most mass murderers have plotted their attacks far longer than any standard waiting period. If we had a handgun registration, the Supreme Court has already ruled that criminals would be exempt under the Fifth Amendment.

Gun owners win on guns making homes safer and also making the community safer. Results show that Democrats like gun control, while Republicans don’t, by about the same margins:

The other panelists on Wednesday are:

• Lori Haas – Virginia State Director for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence
• Charles Willis – Executive Director for Citizens Against Crime
• James Reynolds – President, Proactive Shooters

Here is information on the panel:

Oh man, I wish I was in Richmond! I would love to see this.

We've got two awesome advocates on the pro-2A side, in that debate. Lori Haas, on the other hand, is a certified idiot; not familiar with the other guy.

I have some Liberal leaning family in Richmond; I hope that they watch.

I just watched most of the discussion online.

Unfortunately, after 36 minutes and 57 seconds, it cut off. Mr. Van Cleave was just fixing to school Lori Haas on Illinois. I really want to know how that turned out. I don't suppose that anyone recorded the whole thing?

Jim, you did a great job. Thank you for participating in that discussion. Send my thanks to Mr. Van Cleave,as well.

One thing I wonder about; it's my understanding that Richmond was a "gun free zone", once. Or, at least, was very heavily restricted. The topic of Richmonds "murder capitol" status was brought up. How close to the lifting of restrictions in Richmond was the loss of "murder capitol" status?

Does anyone have a link to the second half?

BTW: The first half is a 421 MB file.

Gun Control Debate on channel 12

Post by zykur »

Great job by Philip from VCDL but the guy who works for channel 12 calling himself a reporter is laughable.
