"An asteroid designated 2015 TB145 will pass by the Earth at around 1.3 lunar distances (approximately 310,000 miles or about 499,000 km) on October 31 this year. Estimated to be anywhere between 280 to 620 m (918 to 2,034 ft) in diameter and traveling in excess of 126,000 km/h (78,293 mph), the asteroid was discovered less than two weeks ago using the Pan-STARRS array in Hawaii and is the largest object to so closely approach our planet in recent times. I was hoping for the Sweet Meteor of Death (SMoD) but I guess this will do. At least we wouldn't have to endure another general election cycle.
Then again, maybe it's not really an asteroid after all.

wasn't the earth supposed to come to an end on Sept. 28th?

Also on December 21st, 2012. The Mayan civilization's calendar engraver got lazy on this one. Many cataclysmic events have been predicted; they have all come..and gone.
Of all of them, I think extinction by asteroid would be the most plausible movie-worthy premise....wait..

The proximity of this asteroid to Earth must be due to carbon emissions. If we would just quit emitting them carbons it would go away...if we haven't reached the ol' tipping point.

I've already committed to eliminating my own gas emissions but I'm afraid that at some point I'll explode.

Most often forget that the mayans believed in cycles, 2012 was just the end of the cycle. It was modern morons that believed it was the end. The earth is old and acts as such, in other words it'll end when it's dang good and ready...dagnabbit!

I believe that's how our civilization will end. An extinction level asteroid impact. Take this example.... this asteroid is supposed to pass close in less than 2 weeks. It was discovered 2 weeks prior. So..... what if.... it was headed for a direct impact..?! Would or Do we have the technology to prevent it on such short notice...? Could we in less than a month, actually do something to prevent such an event....? I'm skeptical to say the least.
Granted, odds are it wont happen for a long time but...... it HAS happened before, AND more importantly, it WILL happen again. The question isn't IF, it's WHEN.....

Are talking about a near miss or a near hit?
I believe that George Carlin once pointed out that a near miss would be a collision.
