"The senators want to make it a federal crime for someone to buy a firearm for a person who is not legally allowed to have a gun."
Huh? And all this time I thought it ALREADY WAS a federal crime.
...Hmmm.... "federal crime"....... isn't that redundant?

Meanwhile, even the Washington Post gets it partly right: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fac ... un-deaths/

I don't think either one of them has any "common sense". That makes it unlikely either can contribute to a "common sense" discussion or good results.
When a couple liberal/progressive/socialist politicians start using words like "common sense" be very afraid.
Edited to add:
Remember the part in the movie, The Princess Bride, where Montoya tells Vizzini, "You keep using that word. I do not think that word means what you think it means."
