Howdy, first post and just moved into VA near Richmond....hopefully this doesn't come off as a negative rant (thats not my intention), but I'm having a lot of problems finding a place to shoot...it seems like all the shooting ranges here suck... (and I used to live in two non-free states). I used to live near to Knob Creek Machine Gun range, which was awesome and here I'm dying. I hope someone can help me:

This is what I am trying to find....near Richmond...
- Shoot without spending months going to meetings and "becoming a member"
- Shoot rifle cartridges (5.56 Nato, .308 Win and .375 H&H)
- Shoot outside (I have never been to an indoor range where I'm not choking on lead)
- Shoot using my own ammo (I want to practice with my ACTUAL carry ammo, and I'm guessing dominion shooting wont have 9mm +P+ buffalo bore, or Horandy Superformance Rifle ammo)
- Shoot using my suppressors
- BONUS: Be able to shoot beyond 100 yards.

I know this will mean I'm probably going to have to drive for hours to get there....but I'll do it....I love shooting, I love Virginia and all it's history. Apart from the ridiculous traffic laws, this is the only negative that I have run into. I also do not care about range fees.

Any advice really appreciated.

If you have a hunting license, there is an outdoor range in Charles City County. I think that it called Chickahominy WMA. It's long gun only, but I used to go there, a few years ago.

From Richmond, it's not a bad drive. It's out in the country, too, so it's a peaceful area.

I think the Black Creek Range meets all your requirements except shooting past 100 yds.

It's out doors (meaning you can sweat off a few pounds of water this time of the year or work at keeping your trigger finger warm in a few months.) and I don't know of any caliber restriction (but I don't shoot anything bigger than .30 caliber).

Only one "meeting", when the owner gets a few people who want to join together and walks them through the ranges and explains the rules to them. After that the only time you see him, or the range, is when you want to go shooting.

There are some others around where you can shoot farther, but I've never been to one of them.

Oh, the Black Creek Range is just a few miles north/northwest of the Richmond Airport. Just 3 or 4 miles from I-295 and Highland Springs.

An hour and 20 minutes to Range 82... outdoor 200 yard rifle and pistol range.

Another choice is the C2 range in Va beach, its nearly in NC but I believe it has everything you need.
