I Hate Being Unarmed

I'm sitting at a truck stop, about an hour east of Memphis. It's a run down old joint, but it's the type that I normally prefer. These older places tend to have good parking, they're not crowded, and they're usually peaceful.

But, I just had some shady cat offer to sell me some stolen jewelry. Said his boss fired him, so he snagged some pieces on his way out the door. Fortunately, he believed me when I told him that I was broke, and he went on to the next truck. The way I figure it, though, he stole that jewelry from someone, so I reckon he'd steal from me, given the opportunity.

I've got a knife, and a zapper. I've got a crowbar and a really heavy flashlight. Come to think of it, I even have some pepper spray.

But those require me to be a little closer to the threat than I want to be. Plus, there was at least one other person in that guys car. Considering that he was riding in the back of the car, I would guess that there were at least 2 others. And, since he used the far door, the possibility of a 3rd companion is there. I just don't think that I could fight that many people off, if I had to.

I miss my guns.

I hear you, man. I feel the same way when I am at work or out of town.

Amen, the restrictions we have to abide by to make weaker folks feel safe, or to have someone's insurance lowered by $3 dollars a month is ridiculous.

Criminals don't care. We're not criminals.

And this is the kind of scenario that causes many good people to choose to be "criminals" and carry something anyway. Not sure what I'd do in that situation.

There is no Federal law preventing you from carrying your weapon... only State level laws. And, according to Federal law, regardless of State law, you can "transport" firearms and ammo anywhere in the US.

I carry where my CHP allows me and transport where I am not covered by my CHP. When I travel out of state to places like PA or Florida, my permit isn't valid in MD or GA. So, I transport according to Federal guidelines in those States. Only takes a few seconds on the side of the road to unholster, unload and lock them up just before the state line or to load up and holster once I am in a state that recognizes my rights.

I hope for you sake and the sake of million of others, the Federal Government finally passes National Reciprocity. Then, if your employer forbids it, you can just find another employer who believes in people being allowed to defend themselves.

If National Reciprocity passes, I'll get my permit, and carry. I don't rightly care about company policy, in that particular area.

I imagine that my company would change the policy, anyway, should that law pass. Virtually every vehicle in the company parking lot has some sort of pro-gun sticker on it, and I suspect that the company would experience a mass exodus if they didn't change the policy. Truck drivers will quit over any small thing, and that's not really a small thing.

In the meantime, I'll just have to stay creative with my self defense tools.

I know exactly what you mean.

Taking my gun to work would earn me some federal firearms charges - not the stuff I want to deal with.

On the other hand, I've made some decisions in the recent past that put me at odds with others - some so angry about it, that I wish I could carry to and from my place of work.

I just completed a 2 week job at VSU .....The first time in a long time that I had no access to a firearm. I figured it was best not to take a firearm on "School Property".

I'm in the same boat as Monkey as far as carrying to work. A joint DHS/DOD Base in DC. Doesn't get much worse unless I was working in a school on base. LoL

I work on a military base also. But that's ok, because we know that there are never any shootings on military bases.
