Pew first: Gun rights top gun control in major public opinion shift
By Paul Bedard | April 20, 2015 | 10:10 am
Exactly two years after President Obama's bid for gun control following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting died in Congress, a new poll has discovered a huge shift in public opinion to backing Second Amendment gun rights and away from controlling gun ownership.
The reason: Americans now believe having a gun is the best way to protect against crime, 63 percent to 30 percent.
Pew Research Center found that while support for gun control once reached 66 percent, it has dropped to 46 percent while support for gun rights has jumped 52 percent, the highest ever in the past 25 years.
"We are at a moment when most Americans believe crime rates are rising and when most believe gun ownership – not gun control – makes people safer," said the survey.
To say the shift in opinion is radical is not an understatement. It follows a short period where Americans were torn over gun ownership, but eventually sided with gun rights groups during the Obama years.
The findings also track with support for the National Rifle Association which had its second biggest national convention earlier this month and whose membership has reached five million.
Pew suggested that the change is the result of Americans believing that crime is a big problem, despite statistics showing the opposite.
"In the 1990s, the rate of violent crimes plummeted by more than half nationwide. Public perceptions tracked right along, with the share saying there was more crime in the U.S. over the past year falling from 87 percent in 1993 to just 41 percent by 2001," said Pew, adding: "In the new century, however, there's been a disconnect. A majority of Americans (63%) said in a Gallup survey last year that crime was on the rise, despite crime statistics holding near 20-year lows."
Pew said it is hard to explain the disconnect. "Why public views on crime have grown more dire is unclear, though many blame it on the nature of news coverage, reality TV and political rhetoric. Whatever the cause, this trend is not without consequence. Today, those who say that crime is rising are the most opposed to gun control: Just 45% want to see gun laws made more strict, compared with 53% of those who see crime rates as unchanged or dropping.”

Country Singers Tim McGraw, Billy Currington Headlining Gun Control Fundraiser
by AWR Hawkins14 Apr 20151367
On July 17, country singers Tim McGraw and Billy Currington will headline a fundraiser for gun control group Sandy Hook Promise in Connecticut.
Sandy Hook Promise was founded after Adam Lanza stole various firearms then carried out a heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary.
NBC Connecticut quoted McGraw as saying:
"Out of this tragedy a group was formed that made a promise to honor the lives lost and turn it into a moment of transformation. Sandy Hook Promise teaches that we can do something to protect our children from gun violence. I want to be a part of that promise – as a father and as a friend."
McGraw’s “A Concert For Sandy Hook Promise” will also feature country singers Billy Currington and Chase Bryant.
On December 15, Breitbart News reported that Sandy Hook Promise is a vehicle through which various relatives of Sandy Hook victims have joined to push gun control until it passes. Newtown father Mark Bearden joined the group pledging to “dedicate the rest of his life” to pursuing gun control.
It should be noted that there was 100 percent gun control at Sandy Hook Elementary on December 14, 2012. No guns were allowed, period. You can’t have more gun than that. Moreover, there were laws against stealing guns and possessing stolen guns as well. But none of these laws stopped or even dissuaded Adam Lanza.
Gun control renders law-abiding citizens defenseless, but it does nothing to stop criminals from carrying out their treachery. Because of this, the money McGraw and Currington raise will ultimately succeed in making it harder for law-abiding citizens to acquire and carry the guns they need for self-defense.

4. Congressman Randy Forbes poll on nationwide concealed carry reciprocity
**************************************************
https://forbes.house.gov/forms/form/?ID=3304
Recently, legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives to allow law-abiding Americans who have concealed carry permits in their home states to legally bring their firearms into any other state with concealed carry laws. Under the bill, titled the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2015, gun owners would still be required to comply with any concealed carry laws in any state they are visiting.
This legislation was created as a common sense solution to the often confusing patchwork of state and local laws, which can pose a real problem for gun owners who may accidentally cross state lines with guns they are legally permitted to carry in their home states.
Congressman Forbes supports the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2015, and has consistently voted to uphold Second Amendment rights.
Question of the Week: Do you support legislation to allow concealed carry permit holders to bring their firearms into other states with similar laws?
( ) Yes.
( ) No.
( ) I am unsure.
( ) Other.

5. An off-duty police officer’s not so fun encounter with some on-duty officers
**************************************************
A local Virginia police officer posted this encounter on Facebook recently (my comments included in square brackets):
Sometimes I think people feel law enforcement officers are immune to what could be perceived as unconstitutional or at a minimum, poor police policy. I'll give a prime personal example of my own law enforcement encounter from not too long ago…
I had just left my department's firearms training center after qualifying with a newly issued duty holster. Normally I carry a compact off-duty which is quite easy to conceal. (I am forbidden from open carrying while off-duty.) However, I had my department issued Sig P226. I had it in a typical pancake holster and had a light jacket on over it. The training was in the evening so it was right around midnight when I left.
On my way home I stopped at a Sheetz which is outside the jurisdiction of the department I work for. I walked to get a drink and snack. As I walked in, I saw two officers from that jurisdiction's department probably on a coffee break. I went about ordering my food, grabbing my drink and then paying. I even said hello to the two officers as I walked up to the sales counter.
I then left the store and got into my truck. It was then I observed both officers had followed me to the door I exited. One appeared to be talking on his radio. I really didn't think much of it. I backed out and headed on down the road towards home.
About a minute later, I see two police cruisers behind me at the red light I had stopped for. I found it strange but didn't think much of it. When the light turned green I pulled out and the cruisers continued to follow me. I knew I hadn't violated any traffic laws so again, didn't think much of it.
I then saw the blue lights go on behind me. I pulled over into a well lit parking lot, placed my overhead light on and my hands on the steering wheel. A short time later, an officer with gun drawn is ordering me to put my hands out the window, which I did. [PVC: I wonder if the on-duty officer would have been less likely to have drawn his gun if the off-duty officer had put both hands out the window to begin with.]
Now I'm thinking, geeze do I match the description of an armed robbery lookout? What could possibly be the issue... The officer asks me where the gun is? I state that its on my right hip. I then state that I'm an off-duty police officer. Turns out the two officers in the Sheetz observed my gun printing through my jacket. Instead of just asking me inside the store if I had a CHP, they waited until I exited and ran my truck tag. When it came back as the
registered owner not having a CHP, they apparently felt they had reasonable suspicion to make a traffic stop on me to further investigate. [PVC: the courts have ruled that someone merely possessing a firearm does not give the officers probably cause or reasonable, articulable suspicion to detain the person with the gun.]
Obviously, I had some words with them. What if a CHP holder is borrowing their friend’s truck, a family member's truck who doesn't have a CHP? Very borderline reasonable suspicion at best in my opinion and the opinion of many of my coworkers… [PVC: And all valid points.]
Why not just ask me in the Sheetz when they first observed the imprint? Their argument was they didn't want to get into a shoot out inside the store if things went bad. [PVC: So they could have asked him as soon as he exited the store.] Do I think these officers are bad? No... Simply a bit misguided but with good intentions. After a couple minutes of me sharing my thoughts I was on my way.
Now if I wasn't a police officer, I likely would have made a complaint to their department. However, I feel after talking with them they realized their mistakes. [PVC: I certainly hope so. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.] Both were young officers without much experience. Hopefully this event allowed them to learn a few things and they won't repeat this mistake.

JCC, Kingsmill Police to Offer Free Firearm Safety Class
April 19, 2015 By WYDaily Staff
The James City County and Kingsmill police departments will team up to offer a free class covering firearms safety, handling and storage.
The class will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wareham’s Pond Recreation Center in Kingsmill. It will also cover laws related to carrying a concealed handgun in Virginia, according to a news release from James City County.
The class does not feature any hands-on training, and all personal firearms should be left at home in a secure place. Attendees will receive a certificate.
Class materials and gunlocks for the class were bought with grant funding from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Project ChildSafe.
More classes will be held May 11 and 26 at the Law Enforcement Center. Preregistration is required for the classes, which have a limited size. To register for any of the classes, call 603-6026.

8. Gun grabbing sweeping the nation [VIDEO]
**************************************************
A lengthy article and a short video that deals with the government coming into a person’s home, seizing their firearms, and then destroying those firearms, all simply based on an accusation of the person committing a crime or having mental-health issues. This unconstitutional action has been taken by courts across the nation for years and has been happening more in recent time.
Could you imagine the reaction if courts were ordering those accused of drunk driving to have their cars or their homes confiscated and destroyed? It’s not any different, but one is not questioned and the other would lead to massive protests.
Oh, and if the person is then found not guilty and mentally healthy, they are offered the fair market value of their guns, but not their guns - since those guns were destroyed.
Here in Virginia, in places like Tidewater, even if the guns are not destroyed, the police resist returning those guns to their rightful owner. It doesn’t seem to matter that the court says the person is innocent of all charges. So the gun owner has to get a lawyer to force the police to release the guns.
That is shameful and we need to find a way to put a stop to all of this. Senator Carrico had a bill to do just that this year, but it was passed by and the Crime Commission is going to look at it over the summer. The bill will have to be reintroduced next year.

FBI REPORT: MORE GUNS CORRELATED WITH LESS CRIME IN FIRST HALF OF 2014
by AWR Hawkins
January 28, 2015
As Breitbart News previously reported, private gun sales skyrocketed during 2013 with 21,093,273 background checks. And now the FBI reports that during the first six months of 2014–the first six months that all these new guns were in the hands of Americans–“offenses” in the categories of violent crimes and property crimes decreased.
In other words, More guns correlated with less crime in the first half of 2014.
According to the FBI, “murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape…aggravated assault, and robbery” all showed decreases when the first six months of 2014 were juxtaposed with the first six months of 2013. Murder fell by “6 percent,” rape by “10.1 percent,” aggravated assault dropped “1.6 percent,” and robbery fell by “10.3 percent.”
Offenses of property crime–“burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft”–all decreased during the first six months of 2014 as well, when contrasted with the first six months of 2013. Burglary fell “14 percent,” larceny-theft fell “5.6 percent,” and motor vehicle thefts fell “5.7 percent.”
When examined by region, the largest decrease in violent crimes and property crimes took place in the Midwest region of the country. When looked at by counties, the largest decrease of both categories of crime took place in non-metropolitan counties–although it did fall in metropolitan counties as well.
On December 4, 2013, Breitbart News reported on a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report showing a similar drop in crime over a near 20-year period correlating with a surge in private gun ownership during that same period. According to the CRS report, privately owned guns jumped from 192 million firearms in 1994 to 310 million firearms in 2009. At the same time, the “firearm-related murder and non-negligent homicide” rate fell from 6.6 per 100,000 Americans in 1993 to 3.6 per 100,000 in 2000 and, finally, to 3.2 per 100,000 in 2011.

Firearms Dealer to Sue Everytown for Gun Safety For Defamation In Bogus Report
by Bob Owens
January 30, 2015
Crossfire Arms, LLC, of Mount Holly, Vermont, says through counsel that it intends to sue Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety for defamation after Everytown suggested that Crossfire Arms was an unlicensed dealer selling firearms to criminals.
Everytown had been pushing a fake “study” that asserted criminals were using online firearms sites to illegally acquire firearms as part of the group’s efforts to impose “universal background checks” on residents of the state that sees less violent crime in a year than many large cities mismanaged by anti-gun Democrats see in a summer weekend. The very speculative Everytown report failed to come up with solid evidence that so much as a single firearm was sold to a criminal via person-to-person sales facilitated by online communications.
Their report also asserted that Crossfire Arms was involved in providing firearms via unlicensed sales, a patently false claim, by including images of their listings in Armlist, including watermarked images.
Crossfire Arms, LLC, of Mt. Holly, Vermont, has retained Attorney Rachel M. Baird as legal counsel to pursue claims against Bloombergbacked Everytown for Gun Safety and all parties involved in the fraudulent investigation leading to the publication of an Everytown report titled, Where Vermont Criminals Shop for Guns, together with media outlets responsible for continued distribution of the fraudulent report. In the blatantly false and malicious report distributed to a worldwide audience, Everytown misappropriated Crossfire Arms’ logo and defamed its owner Bobby Richards and Crossfire Arms by characterizing both as vehicles for the unlicensed sale of firearms to felons, fugitives from justice, domestic violence abusers, and other unspecified criminals.
For the record, Richards and Crossfire Arms observe and comply with all federal and state laws pertaining to firearms. As a licensed dealer Crossfire Arms completes all transactions in person and performs a background check for every transaction involving a firearm.
In a time when the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding firearm owners are under relentless attack by agenda- driven Bloomberg -backed organizational fronts and government authorities, Richards and Crossfire Arms rightfully fear and anticipate that Everytown’s actions will deter vendors and customers from association with Crossfire Arms.
In conclusion, Richards and Crossfire Arms intend to take swift and immediate legal action aimed at holding Everytown and all those associated with the defamatory report accountable for this latest irresponsible attempt by a Bloomberg-backed organization to distribute factually incorrect reports to susceptible media outlets and elected state officials.
The Washington Times notes that Everytown is now in damage control mode.
Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control group financed by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, has gone into mea culpa mode for claims it made about firearms dealers that turned out to be wrong — and that may lead at least one to file a lawsuit.
The group issued a report a few days ago that said more than 1,000 online gun ads in Vermont were posted by unlicensed dealers and therefore, leading potential buyers to bypass background checks. But Everytown for Gun Safety wrongly identified 49 dealers.
Though perhaps the newest gun control group on the national scene along with fellow Bloomberg creation Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety has been repeatedly savaged by fact-checkers in the media for making misleading statements. Politifact, FactCheck.org, and CNN were among those that pointed out that the group lied about the number of school shootings that have taken place in the United States since Sandy Hook, and still continues to push that fabrication via both Moms Demand and Everytown.
It’s a sad state of affairs when gun control groups are forced to falsify information and allegedly defame lawful business owners in order to push their anti-constitutional agenda.
It is not known at this time if any other dealers cited in the Bloombergian propaganda piece is also considering legal action.
Update: Crossfire Arms, LLC has announced that it will file suite against Everytown.

Student Pulls Gun on Burglars Striking UCF Area Apartment, Deputies Say
by Jake Rakoci
January 27, 2015
A UCF student pulled a handgun and fought off burglars that forced their way into her Village of Alafaya Club apartment on Tuesday, according to deputies.
At approximately 4:51 p.m. Tuesday night, two black males in their early 20’s forced their way into the apartment of two UCF students, male and female, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
According to deputies, one of the suspects held a handgun to the male victim’s head and ordered him to the ground. The female victim then ran into her bedroom and got her handgun.
The female UCF student then pointed the gun at the suspects. That caused both the suspects to run away and for one suspect to drop his gun, according to deputies.
It turned out the suspect’s handgun was actually a pellet gun, according to deputies.
Both students were unharmed.
A perimeter search involving a K-9 unit and air search did not locate the suspects, according to authorities.

“The Gun Was The One Thing That Made Them Run”
by Bob Owens
January 30, 2015
Two University of Central Florida students say that the only thing that kept them from being seriously injured or killed in an armed robbery was the fact that one of their father’s made sure that she had a gun to protect them from predators.
Nour Skargee went to answer a knock at the door Tuesday night and two large men armed with a pistol pushed their way in the apartment, grabbing Skargee by the throat and pushing him into the living room.
They didn’t know that Skargee’s girlfriend, Sable Nehme, was in the back of the apartment until Skargee yelled, “grab the gun!”
The second victim, Sable Nehme, ran to her bedroom, retrieved her gun and pointed it at the culprits, deputies said.
“I quickly closed my door and locked it to get some extra time to get the gun,” Nehme said. “He immediately, when he saw the gun, turned right back around, darted out and both of them fled the apartment.”
One of the men dropped their gun, which ended up being a pellet gun.
“If we didn’t have a gun, it would have been game over. They were bigger than me, bigger than both of us,” Skargee said. “We had no way of stopping them. The gun was the one thing that made them run.”
It never ceases to amaze me that gun control supporters act against their own self-interests. They are attempting to outlaw the one tool that gives them a chance of surviving an encounter with criminal aggressors that are generally younger, faster, bigger and stronger than their victims.
News 9 reported that this was just the latest in a string of robberies at off campus apartments, where robbers are targeting students.
Why do criminals target college students? Two reasons.
They have small electronics and computers that are easily stolen and fenced.
They tend to be unarmed victims.
“I am so thankful I had that gun in my room. Like, I don’t know what would have happened,” said Nehme.
In this instance, ready access to a firearm was all that kept Skargee and Nehme from being robbed… or worse.

SEE IT: Machete-wielding Idaho man chops through apartment door before tenant shoots him to end 'Shining'-style rampage (VIDEO)
by Meg Wagner New York Daily News
January 19, 2015
An Idaho man who chopped through an apartment door with a machete before his victim shot him was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday.
Twain Thomas previously pleaded guilty to second degree attempted murder and aggravated assault for the "Shining"-style February attacks at a Pocatello complex.
James Cvengros, the tenant who shot Thomas and caught the terrifying saga on video, acted in self-defense and was not charged, a court ruled.
Prosecutors said Thomas started his two-apartment rampage when he broke into an upstairs apartment and threated two people with a machete.
He left without hurting anyone and went downstairs.
Meanwhile, Cvengros set up a video camera when he heard Thomas yell in the complex's hallway. He also noticed glass flying from an upstairs apartment's windows, he said.
That's when Thomas started chopping through Cvengros' door, he said.
Video showed the 54-year-old break through the door in just a few seconds and enter through the butchered door with his machete swinging.
In the 1980 film “The Shining,” Jack Nicholson’s crazed character similarly hacks down a bathroom door.
Cvengros and his girlfriend, Kaila Gearhart, screamed at the intruder, telling him to get out. When he kept swinging, Cvengros opened fire.
"Stay down, Twain!" Cvengros yelled in the video after he fired. "I didn't want to do that!"
"If he hadn't been shot at that time, then we would be looking at a murder case, not an attempted murder case," Cvengros said in court, according to Local News 8.
Thomas' neuropsychologist, Mark Corgiat, said Thomas suffers from PTSD and has a frontal lobe injury from a car accident. The 54-year-old didn't know what he was doing and only snapped out of rampage mode after he was shot, he said.
"His fight-or-flight is constantly on overdrive," Corgiat said.
Thomas will spend at least five years in prison before he is eligible for parole. He has also been fined pay $1,200 and will have a no-contact order with his victims until 2025.

Senior With Cancer-Stricken Wife Shoots And Kills Armed Home Invader In Michigan
by Bob Owens
January 29, 2015
I can’t imagine the terror that must have been running through the mind of the 74-year-old Southgate, Michigan homeowner just before 5:00 AM this morning as a home invader broke in.
The homeowner armed himself and stepped outside the bedroom to protect his cancer-stricken wife as she called 911.
The homeowner ran into the armed home invader. According to investigators, the home invader raised his weapon, and the homeowner was forced to fire to save his life.
Southgate police say a 16-year-old is dead after breaking into his neighbor’s home early Thursday morning and being shot by the homeowner.
The incident happened just before 5 a.m. in the 15000 block of Flanders Street, just south of Eureka Road.
Southgate Director of Public Safety Thomas Coombs said the 74-year-old homeowner got his gun when he heard the teen, who was also armed, break in.
“As he walked through the home, the home invader confronted him with the gun. He shot the home invader and the home invader died here on scene,” Coombs said.
The homeowner apparently fired just one shot. The home invader died at the scene.
The home invader has been identified as 16-year-old James “Jimmy” Clickard, who was the neighbor of the elderly couple he tried to victimize.
According to his Twitter profile Clickard was a gang member, but whether that is true or simply teen-aged braggadocio and posturing is unknown at this time.
There was no stated motive for Clickard to attack his elderly neighbors, but I’d be willing to speculate that he might have been hoping to steal narcotics from the cancer-stricken wife of the homeowner.
This was a bad decision, and one he paid for with his life.

PICTURES: ANIMAL RIGHTS THUGS BEAT HUNT MASTER SENSELESS WITH IRON BARS
by OLIVER LANE
January 28, 2015
The Countryside Alliance has released images of the moment masked hunt-saboteur protesters knocked to the ground and proceeded to kick Tedworth Hunt master Mike Lane unconscious in what the Alliance has called “a violent exercise in hating people, not loving animals”.
The hunt-saboteurs, or ‘sabs’, followed and harassed the hunt over the course of the day but became violent as the hounds were being taken back to the kennels. As Lane moved to calm the situation he was spat upon, fell to the ground, was kicked in the head and knocked unconscious.
Lane was treated at hospital for broken teeth and concussion after his fellow hunters ran to his defence.
Though violence of this level is comparatively rare, intimidation and disruption by left wing agitators are now a familiar part of the British hunting season, with lives routinely put at risk. The group repeatedly attempted to stop the hunt during the course of the day, targeting both the hunters and their hounds. The activists sprayed the hounds with citronella, an oil that dogs find very unpleasant.
Jill Grieve of the Countryside Alliance said: “What happened on Saturday is part of an ongoing investigation and we wish Mike well in his recovery. This attack can be condemned by all sides whether pro-hunting or not, there is simply no justification.
“Carrying iron bars, wearing masks to conceal identity, spraying hounds and causing injuries such as Mike sustained shows the face of modern animal rights activity. It is thankfully not widespread but is a violent exercise in hating people, not loving animals”.
Police are treating the event as assault resulting in bodily harm and have launched an investigation, however the perpetrators may prove difficult to track.
This is not the most violent end to a hunt recorded since ‘sabs’ started to disrupt hunts. Trevor Morse, 48, who rode with the Warwickshire hunt was decapitated by ‘sab’ Bryan Griffiths in 2009. Griffiths had been using a ‘gyrocopter’, a light hybrid aircraft similar to a helicopter to harass the hunt, regularly flying over the hounds and horses to scare them.
In a video taken just moments after Morse was struck in the head by the rotor blades a voice was heard to say with callous indifference: “Oh dear, the t*** didn’t stand clear of it”. Griffiths was cleared of manslaughter.
