Check out the mailing he just sent out. It also has a handy map showing where Virginia has reciprocity.

Nice.
All that red is sad.

He had me at "Dear Fellow Permit Holder".
The red may look bad, but when you see what states they are and figure out you probably don't want to visit most of them anyway, it don't feel so bad anymore.

AMEN! Wish all Clerks were that way.

That is very citizen friendly. My relative and his spouse in Wise experienced a quick turn around on getting their CHPs. Thanks Dorm for checking on that for me earlier this year.
Just obtained my CHP in Chesterfield which is somewhat the opposite in size from Wise County in population. A pleasant experience. The Clerk's staff was friendly and efficient. I think the staff is not allowed to make estimates on how long the process takes but were nice and told me the delays, if they occur are when unusually heavy workloads arise for the police or the judges. In my case it was issued almost exactly three weeks from the day I applied.
The letter accompanying the permit says "I am pleased to enclose" and goes on to inform you that you can have it laminated, invites you to call with questions and says they "will be happy to assist you".
Looking at the map graphic reminded me how much travel I can do and carry concealed because of reciprocity. Makes me hope we can get a Federal law mandating reciprocity.

Some of that red is wrong or at least misleading. For example, Alabama now honors any state's permit.
I think handgunlaw.us does a better job than any other online site of keeping reciprocity (actually what states honor other states permits) current. Here is their link for VA:

I checked with J Jack. He notes that he is bound by the posting of the Virginia State Police as the guiding authority.

GOTCHA! Hell! Once we get the ENTIRE SOUTH RECIPROCITY, we're set for an "interesting situation"!

He shouldn't be. He does not work for them. And it's no excuse for sending out bad info to your constituents.
It's not just AL that is shown as red and not honoring a VA permit when in fact it does. Also incorrectly listed in red on Jack's map are IA, ID and MO.
I have trouble with even using the term reciprocity as it implies a two-way thing. I sent an email to the VA State Police folks who deal with CHPs and "reciprocity" and asked them why VA honors permits from WA and MN; yet, neither WA nor MN honors a VA permit - got no answer.
I applaud Jack's desire to help CHP holders and those seeking one; but, he does not get a pass for sending out bad info just because he is one the good guys.
