First trip to Green Top

Made my first visit to Green Top on my way back up to NoVA from Richmond/Midlothian yesterday. That place puts Gander Mtn, Cabela's and Bass Pro to shame! The guys at the pistol counter were patiently dispensing some great advice to an "interesting array of characters" and they seemed to have everything... Why, yes, I will take an integrally suppressed Ruger Mk II (next time)!

We have something up here in Arlington that caters more to this demographic: IKEA :(

Now, the "interesting array of characters" part was a bit concerning. At first, I thought, "Right on. Nice to see women buying themselves some firearms." Then in several of the cases, it was obvious that the baby-daddy/boyfriend/husband was the actual intended recipient of the firearm. If they're willing to lie and pull this off in front of uniformed VSP, what's to be done about it?

Never been. Drove by 4 times, swore I was gonna stop, but just never had the time. Soon I hope. I hear lots of great things about it.

As far as the appearance of straw purchases, Its depends on the situation and there could be several.

I have purchased several weapons for my son. Starting when he was 14, every year for his birthday, I buy him something that he picks out. However, there are limits. Watching him and I shop together is kinda funny with the banter. So far, he has a break breach HP pellet rifle, a bolt action 22LR, an MP15. On his 17th birthday, he will be getting a pistol.

Now, legally, my trust owns all of these weapons and he is the beneficiary. He would be a trustee until he's 18. Before the trust was created, I was the legal owner and regulated access (as I do now).

Then, there are the control freaks. I see them all the time. A female is looking for a gun and her boyfriend or husband doesn't think she is capable of making a practical and educated choice on her own. She he is telling her what to buy. That irritates me more than a straw purchase.

Been there several times over the years. I got my first handgun there with my Dad's help. It was a 6" Colt Python. That was March 1979. I still have that revolver. Great people then and great people now.
