Hello, I am new to this and am aware this post should probably go in the Q&A section but thought it would be seen more here. My question is are there any ffl holders around the Roanoke area whom accept rifles from private individuals out of state for transfer. Also why do so many ffl holders not accept firearms from private individuals. Any info is appreciated Thanks

Welcome to VGOF
Here's a link to our FFL thread. You should be able to find a dealer that can handle an out of state transfer.

My local FFL doesn't because 1 of the Roanoke area ATF agents suggested that he don't.

Oakridgestars thanks for the list I will start calling. I too have read several posts about ffl's not accepting them due to misinformation like Oldtimer said. And I guess they are just covering their 6's with paperwork. I hope I can find someone soon I have a chance at a rifle I don't want it to get away.

It's funny how dealers and gun buyers revile the ATF and the GCA '68, and then the dealers turn around and make up their own rules that go beyond what the law requires. A dealer who only accpets guns from other dealers is making his own rules, believing erroneously that he is covering himslef to a greater degree.
What usually pushes them into this is that individuals send guns and do not include a copy of their DL for the FFL's books. Other than the record-keeping difficulty that creates, there is no other good reason a dealer cannot or should not accept guns from individuals.
