Hey all, I am new. Want to learn and converse with like-minded folks. I grew up in North Carolina. After I got out of the military, I moved to Virginia in 1987. Fairfax Co in 2000. My wife and I love to shoot and with my son starting college this past Fall, we have got back into it every weekend that we can. We applied for CHPs on 1/30/2015. It amazes me that some counties like Prince William can issue in under 10 days and Fairfax seems to wait right up to the 45 day cutoff. Oh well....

Although you might complain about how long it takes to get a permit in Fairfax County, when I moved here in 1991, I could not get a permit because the county sheriff did not think citizens should carry a gun. I couldn't get a permit until 1995, when the law was changed to force all counties in the state to issue permits if the person met the qualifications.

Thanks for the welcome. I thought I received my CHP today in the mail from Fairfax, Co but it was a letter of suspension on my application due to the fact it was not "notarized correctly". I called the clerk of court who advised that the dates of my signature did not match the notary's date. I knew this already and asked the notary when we did it would it be a problem, answer was no. I dropped off the application in person on 1/30 and asked the clerk about it, answer was no problem as long as it is notarized. Lesson learned I guess. They gave me a supplemental sheet that states that affirm what I put in my appication is true which I need to get notarized then re-submit or I can take it in person and sign it in front of the Deputy Clerk. Bottom line...it's my fault and should have known better. You can ask 20 people the same question, get 20 different answers but only one is the right one...

The lesson here being that you always sign and date the document in the presence of the notary. Any notary should have known this and advised you accordingly. Hopefully you won't have to wait very long for the next go around.
