My First 1911

I'll be moving to CA this summer, so I've been loading up on handguns. Once I move there, my retail options for purchasing 1911s will be severely limited, so I decided to get several now.
There was a time where 1911s were of no interest to me. I began to waver when a salesman passed me a 1911 when I was shopping for a P220. The thing I immediately noticed was how heavy it was (it was a full sized brand of some sort), but it also felt natural in my hand.
So, I bought a Rock Island Tactical II midsize in 9mm last week. I haven't shot it yet, but it feels great...love the heft (40 oz), the way the slide racks back feels very exotic-like, and the trigger is like an on-off button. The fit is solid enough...there's a very tiny amount of slide play. The gun is parkerized but the finish is good enough for a duty gun, IMO. The trigger moves a bit, though, from side to side...I can get that fixed at any time. The G10 grips...oh man, those things are nice but might be too aggressive for some people. The front sight's fiber optic is nice and bright when sighting but looks dirty when looking down on the gun.
I have to get used to disassembling the gun, though...it's easy to get apart but difficult to reinstall the slide catch. I've already created idiot marks, but hey, this gun is a tool, so that doesn't bother me so much.
I also have a Metro Arms American Classic Commander in .45 on the way. This gun is supposed to be a level above RIA 1911s.
Some of you are probably wondering why the two low brand 1911s? I just need them to go bang...I don't need anything fancy or extremely expensive right now. Yes, I could've found a nice Sig 1911 for the money I spent on these two off-brand 1911s, but I already have a $1K gun that stays in the safe because I'm not as happy with it as I should be...I didn't want to buy another such gun, so I decided to get two of different caliber and make to test the waters. I'm already liking the RIA and haven't even shot it yet...I'm pretty sure I'm going to like the Metro Arms, too. Plus, I wanted to diversify my collection.
