Wish I Hadn't Done That

I was in the back yard with the kids roasting marshmallows over the fire pit when suddenly we all heard sirens and noticed smoke coming from the neighbors' house a few doors down.
We ran over to find our neighbor and his wife standing on the sidewalk watching the conflagration that was their home with tears in their eyes.
As we all stood there our neighbor turned and looked at us. Instantly his expression changed from one of profound sadness to that of an enraged madman.
I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was the problem. We had always been on reasonably good terms with this neighbor.
That is, until I realized that we still had our sticks and marshmallows in hand.
