I can't buy a gun in VA?

I just changed my address on my DL. It used to live in Chesapeake but now I live in Suffolk. I have my CCP with my old address on it and my old DL (not expired). However if I'm reading the law currently I can't buy a gun Bc the issue date is less than 30 days ago?

That sounds correct since you're not renewing the driver's license.
When the photo-identification presented to a dealer by the prospective purchaser is a driver's license or other photo-identification issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, and such identification form contains a date of issue, the dealer shall not, except for a renewed driver's license or other photo-identification issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, sell or otherwise transfer a firearm to the prospective purchaser until 30 days after the date of issue of an original or duplicate driver's license unless the prospective purchaser also presents a copy of his Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles driver's record showing that the original date of issue of the driver's license was more than 30 days prior to the attempted purchase.

Look at the "unless " part. What you have is an updated version of an existing license, which is pretty much what a renewal is.
Just bring the copy of your DMV record, as proof that you have been licensed to drive by the Commonwealth for more than 30 days.
That's how I read it, anyway. I am not a lawyer, your mileage may vary, etc.

I would think my old DL would prove that. This sucks Bc I wanted to buy a gun at the gun show today and for some reason the dmv won't ever let me login online.

When I moved, I applied for a change of address with DMV. They issued a paper card that showed my new address, which I would present with my current D/L. I used that card with my D/L until it expired and I was issued a new D/L with my current address.
I didn't have any problems buying a gun during that time.

I already went through this OP. All you have to do is bring your driver's record OR your old licence if you still have it. Either will work.
In my case, my licence was suspended for a traffic fine I forgot to pay. I went to pick up my firearm from the FFL only to find out my licence was suspended and because of it, I could not use it as ID. I failed the BG test.
I took care the ticket, got my new license in the mail 5 days later, showed both to the FFL as proof that I previously had a license prior to getting a new one, passed the background check, and picked up my new gun...
The state police (who I called to find out why I failed the background check) as well as the FFL both confirmed that my DMV record and/or old licence was good enough to prove that I had a VA licence 30 days prior to getting my reissued one....

If you update your address at the DMV (or their website) as you are *legally required* to do, they send a little piece of paper that makes this all go away. Keep it with your license and forget the old address.

I got one back when they first started this policy. You would not believe the hard looks that I got when I used it. Now almost no one even gives it a second look.
